Zalman ZM-DS4F Headphone Review - Page 2
Performance and
conclusion
I tested these headphones on my iPod,
as well as PC for both games and music.
Keeping in mind the extremely affordable price point of $29.50, I was very impressed with the sound quality.
I found that the midrange/lower midrange was noticeably
stronger, but without aversely affecting the overall sound reproduction. The
acoustics and higher end tones were slightly less pronounced, but were still
reproduced accurately and distinctly. The lower end tones also came out strongly
with a solid feel; however as with headphones of this size - don’t expect any
chest thumping bass. The sound levels can also be turned up to deafening levels
without any distortion in the output.
A small word of warning for those who are looking to use
these in crowded public areas – the sound insulation on these headphones isn’t
particularly strong, so the sound will become fairly audible in the surrounding
area once you get past a low-moderate volume.
The ZM-DS4F is not designed or optimized for use in games,
as evidenced by the lack of extra features such as a microphone or
multi-directional sound output; however they do a solid job for casual gaming
and have no issues reproducing in game effects such as gunfire, ambient sounds,
or voice reproductions.
Overall, the Zalman ZM-DS4F
headphones are a welcome addition to the headphone market. Their small, lightweight
and foldable design allow them to be carried with ease in a backpack or handbag
- great for those who are looking to
listen to portable audio and would like options besides using in-ear solutions.
Additionally, the sound quality at a very affordable price
point makes them an excellent - and definitely recommended option.
Final Score: 75%
