Testing & Conclusion:
My fist impression of the sound effects - It was amazing. The sound effects had me awake from the second I loaded up my first game and the publisher/developer animations came on screen. These headphones are specifically tweaked for gaming performance, meaning distinctive sounds such as footsteps and gunfire come out strongly and crisply with excellent clarity. Additionally, audio positioning for sounds can be differentiated not just left and right but in full 3D 360 degree positioning. These features not only add to the experience and immersion of a game but for serious gamers can make the difference between life and death and providing that unseen advantage. (A note for those who think that people who can shoot from out of nowhere are wall hacking)For musical performance, the overall quality is above average but not the main strength of the headphones. The audio comes up a bit more strongly on the higher end than the lower end. Each instrument comes up clearly and strongly, and the acoustics come out especially well as you would expect with a set of headphones designed to deliver crisp and distinct sound effects for gaming performance. The overall quality will still blow away a cheaper $30 set of headphones and is definitely strong enough to be able to differentiate between a lower 128kbps mp3 and a higher end 192+ track. Even without paying attention initially, when I start playing a game it has always struck me how much difference headphones make to the gaming experience. Whether it’s for that distinct advantage in the battlefield or to create an unparalled sense of immersion I have been more than impressed with the difference a good set of headphones can make. While the price tag does not come in cheap at $140 for the USB version, the Steel Sound 5H lives up to its claim to be the best available gaming headset on the market. It comes with features and functionality that is unmatched by any competitor, and provides what it advertises – pure gaming sound. Final Score: 92% |
