Steelpad 4D Review - Page 2
Testing and conclusion:
I was quite impressed with the gaming performance - this pad caters for
fine adjustments for precision tracking and sniping, rapid and accurate
movements of the mouse for RTS and FPS games, as well as large sweeping
motions when controlling vehicles and aircraft. Being the same size as
the Steelpad 4S, there were also no issues with running out of mousing
space.
The Steelpad 4D is also ideal of general and office use. While I have
been comparing it to the higher end competitors, it is important to note
how much of a difference this pad makes compared to those generic $2 or
freebie mouse pads that float around. Most of us can relate to how frustrating it can be
when a cursor skips or pauses, or the mouse decides to be stubborn for
its own reasons. The 4D can provide a near perfect response from your mouse,
particularly in providing excellent traction for ball mice.
The price tag of $25 RRP puts it in a middle cost range of the performance
mouse pads available in the market today. There is also the added bonus
of the included padsurfers that other competitors at this range do not
include. Having gotten used to the performance of the high-end mouse pads
there was a high benchmark and expectation of how the Steelpad 4D would
compare. While overall there was slightly less slickness and precision,
the 4D passed with flying colours, especially at half the cost than the
4S.
I definitely prefer this pad to the other major plastic competitors,
especially in regards to the overall smoothness and sliding ability. The
surface feels like it’s also more likely to last a reasonable amount of
time without wearing down.
In conclusion, the Steelpad 4D is great for general usage and graphics
programs. It is also perfect for gamers who are on the lookout for the
best possible performance with a budget in mind. The inclusion of 2 separate
surfaces caters for different types of mice, as well as different personal
preferences for a choice between desired friction and
smoothness.
