Icemat Audio: Siberia Headphones Review - Page 2
Performance:
The Icemat Siberia is aimed primarily at gamers, and this is
where the performance of the headphones really stands out. The audio quality is
crisp and clear, which makes subtle noises such as footsteps and shells falling
on the ground easy to hear. I have heard sounds with these headphones that I
had never noticed before with my Boston Acoustics 4.1 speaker system. All of
the audio elements of a game, including vocals, sound effects, music, and
ambient noises came out strongly and clearly.
The size and shape of the earphones means that they fit
completely over the ears, and makes directional hearing a breeze – not just
left and right, but front and back sounds come out clearly and easy to tell. It
was quite interesting using HRTF 3D positional audio and having the virtual
sounds “travel” all around.
While the primarily purpose and the major strength of these
headphones is for gaming, they also work well for music. I tested the
headphones with my CD player as well as MP3s and audio CDs on my
system, with music ranging from dance, to rock and others. The mid to high
range of sounds come out with incredible clarity, the only drawback is that the
bass on the headphones is relatively weak. The instruments and vocals came out
strongly and clearly, once again the main weakness coming from the lower range
sound and bass. I even managed to turn the volume up to the max without
distorting the sound quality!

Conclusion:
The Icemat Siberia is yet again another winner in the Icemat product line.
SoftTrading have managed to build a product that combines the best of style,
features and functionality. In addition to having audio quality in the high end, the
headphones are light and durable, and I have managed to spend hours on end
using them without becoming feeling heavy or awkward over my head and ears. The
only downsides are the relatively high price tag and weaker bass.
Overall the Siberia has definitely earned its place as part
of my everyday gaming equipment.
Final Score: 89%
