    UMK3 GENESIS FAQ
Adapted from UMK3 SNES FAQ written by WorknMan & Ar-Kane
Genesis info written by Michael Kraft
    Revision #2.1
    Last Updated: 10/31/96 (BOO!)

    IMPORTANT INFO:
Well I liked WorknMan & Ar-Kane's SNES UMK3 FAQ so much I converted it to a
Genesis FAQ. I did NOT write the moves list part. The only stuff I wrote
was Genesis specific information, the rest is from the SNES FAQ. I wanted to
get WorknMan's permission before posting this, but it seems his site is down
and I can't contact him. I figured that he wouldn't mind as this is more of a
    tribute than a rip-off.

To WorknMan: If you want me to stop posting this just say so.

    NOTES:
    1. Most likely Noob and Rain don't have fatalities or friendships.
And Classic Sub-zero and Human Smoke only have 1 fatality and no
    friendships.
    [Addendum: I've been told C. Sub-zero has a friendship (like Reptile's and
Scorpion's except with a snowman head). This might be true as Reptile's
and Scorpion's aren't shown in the Supreme Demo either and the snowman
head already exists for regular Sub-Zero's friendship. The person told me
he saw the computer do C. Sub-Zero's friendship. But I've tried every
button combination with the quick end Friendships on and have not been
able to do a friendship so who knows. I'll assume it can't be done until
    proven otherwise].
    2. If anyone can get Kitana's friendship to work (without using quick end)
    tell me.
    3. Also I can't get Ermac Slam fatality to work, but I could never get it to
work in the arcade either :). [quick end works fine].
    4. I'm not listing all the combos in this fact as there are various FAQs
in existance that have combos for the UMK3 characters. I've listed a few
combos for Noob and Rain (see Trilogy Combo FAQ for more).
    5. The newest version of this FAQ can be found at:

    WHAT'S NEW
    -----------

    Revision 2.1:
-Added some notes about a possible Classic Sub-Zero friendship.

    Revision 2:
-Added some combos for Rain and Noob.
-Removed Noob's and Rain's babalities (Haven't got them to work).
-Fixed many non-move errors (Shao Kahn Treasures, Vs. Codes, ...).

Notable Differences From Arcade Version and Other Info
    ------------------------------------------------------

    * Rain and Noob Saibot are playable and on the select screen. They appear to
be just like their Trilogy counterparts. (No fatalities or friendships
    though).
    * Sheeva was removed from the game. (But her sound effects are still in the
    Sound Test Menu).
    * Brutalities are in!!
    * The graphics/gameplay/sound effects are pretty much ventage MK3. Not a
whole lot of detail has been added in this upgrade, with the exception of
    the UMK3 features/characters/backgrounds.
    * Animalities have been removed.
    * Shao Kahn's treasure chest has only 10 boxes instead of 12.
    * Most of Shao Kahn's voices are gone. You still get "Round 1" and stuff but
    no spoken character names.
    * No UMK3 music, only MK3 music (in fact even though the Street stage isn't
in the game it's music is in the Sound Test option in the CHEATS menu).
    * Scorpion's hellraiser is different .. it just takes the opponent back into
the hell stage where they just catch on fire and explode.
    * Kitana's kiss of death only inflates heads .. same effect as Kabal's air
    pump fatality
    * Sonya's friendship is her MK3 one not her UMK3 one.
    * Air juggle combos are easier to do than in the Genesis MK3 version. In fact
they fixed a lot of stuff that was wrong in MK3.
    * Stages: The Subway, The Bank, The Rooftop, Soul Chamber, Kombat Temple,
The Lost World, The Pit 3, Jades desert, Kahns Kave, Scorpions Lair,
    River Kombat.
    * Uppercutting in the Subway and Soul Chamber does not take you to level
    above as there is none.
    * Everyone, except Human Smoke, has an intro bio.
    * Everone has an ending bio.
    * There seem to be plenty of glitches in there, which makes this game that
    much better:)

    ===============================================================================
    CODES AND SECRETS
    ===============================================================================

    CHEAT MENUS:

At the Menu Screen Enter B-A-D-L-A-D-C-R-U-D to enable all 3 Genesis MK3
cheat menus. I've been told C-R-A-L-A-U-C-R-A-L-A-U and A-C-U-B-U-B-A-D also
    work.

I can do this everytime now. It seems to be picky as to how fast you enter
it. To people having a problem (like I used to) wait for the menu screen
to fully display, then do the code (one button about every half second).

It has been said that you must start the code on OPTIONS, but I've gotten it
to work starting on START so this isn't true.

    CHEATS (Menu options):
    ----------------------
    SOUND TEST
    MORE KREDITS (up to 95)
    BIOSCREEN (character intro bio screen)

    SECRETS (Menu options):
    -----------------------
    TIMER Off/Slow/Normal/Fast
WIN SCREEN (Lets you see character's win bio screen)
    KOMBAT ZONE (Level Select)

    KILLER CODES (Menu options):
    ----------------------------
QUICK END (See Quick End section for more details)
SHAO KAHN (Enabled or Disabled) [Disabled if Motoro is Enabled]
MOTORO (Enabled or Disabled) [Disabled if Shao Khan is Enabled]
    PLAY HIDDEN GAME (Galaga)

    QUICK END SECTION:
With this option turned on (in the killer kodes menu), you can shorten the
amount of button presses you need to do a fatality. The button to press is
    based on the following:

    1. If the move requires you to hold down block, then BLOCK is the quick end.
ex: Jax Arm blade fatal: Hold BL+(U-D-F-U) so quick end is BL.

    2. If the move requires you to hold down any other button besides block than
the quick end is to charge and release that button.
ex: Kano Skeleton Rip: Hold LP+(F-D-D-F) so quick end is charge LP and
    release.

    3. If the move has no buttons you hold down then the last button(s) and/or
direction pressed (or both a direction and button) is the quick end.
ex: Cyrax copter: D-D-U-D-HP so quick end is HP.
ex: Liu Kang friend: R-R-R-D+R so quick end is D+R

    Exceptions:
    SONYA Fat2: D+BL+R(past half screen) Friend: D+run

Even though The Animality option is present it doesn't work.

    Play as Human Smoke:
    ----------------------
Choose Smoke. When any round is starting, hold HP+HK+BL+RUN.
Unlike the arcade, you don't need to use the control pad at all.

    Shao Kahn's Treasure Chest:
    -----------------------------
After you beat Shao Kahn, you can choose a symbol. Unlike in the arcade you
can pick any symbol after beating the game on any level.

1 MK Dragon : See the character's ending
    2 MK Logo : Galaga
    3 Yin-Yang : Random Prize
    4 Number three : Fatality Demonstration 1
    5 Question Mark : Fatality Demonstration 2
    6 Lightning Bolt : Fatality Demonstration 3
7 Goro : Noob Sabiot, Ermac Endurance
8 Raiden : Mega Endurance Match vs Noob, Classic Subzero, Human
    Smoke, Ermac and Mileena
9 Shao Kahn : Same as number 8
10 Skull : Supreme fatality demonstration (Brutalities replace
Animalities. Friendship not shown for Reptile and Scorpion)

Note - You can reach this treasure chest really easy by playing through the
    8 player tournament mode.

    ===============================================================================
    ================
    CHARACTER MOVES

    ===============================================================================
    =====
    Key
    -----------------------

    U = Up HP = High Punch R = Run HK = High Kick
F = Forward LP = Low Punch BL = Block LK = Low Kick
    D = Down
B = Back (Default 6 button joystick setup)

    Move (distance): movement

    For movement:

    "-" means "then"
    "+" means "and"
So D-F-HP+LP means Down, then forward, then hit HP and LP at the same time.

Hold button (other thing) more things
So "hold LP (D-F-D-F) HK" means
"Hold LP, then tap D-F-D-F, then let go of LP, then hit HK, release HK"

    A word about "Hold button"...
Sometimes you have to hold the button a certain amount of time. If
something doesn't work that involves holding a button, hold it longer.

If something requires UP, it helps to hold block, but it is not necessary.

    ---------------------------------------
    Friendships/Babalities:

    - Don't hit block during the winning round
    - You can be anywhere on the screen (unless otherwise specified)

    ---------------------------------------
    Stage fatalities:

    Scorpion's Lair
    The Subway
    The Pit III

(see "Stage:" to see how to do these for each character)
(the distance is always "up close")

    --------------------------------------
    BRUTATLITIES

These are like Killer Instinct Ultra combos. You start off by doing a
series of button presses like a regular chain combo. You do about 10
of these button presses and the game goes into "fatality mode"
and the CPU finishes the brutality automatically .. the hits just
get faster and faster until your opponent explodes. (The Computer's
    favorite finishing move)

    ---------------------------------------
    Random Select: Just like MK2.

    Up-Start at the select screen.
The default players have to be selected for this to work.

    BUGS AND GLITCHES
    ------------------
    * Most bugs involve the sound effects being screwed up:
    * When Kitana's fan or Jade's boomerang hits opponent it makes the opponent's
special attack sound. (For example: Sindel's scream and Stryker's grenades.
I like when you do it against Kung Lao, he makes his throw sound.)
    * When you exit one of the cheat menus the main menu music and the cheat menu
music play at the same time :)
    * Messed up brutalities: I've seen the computer do some really strange things
while doing brutalites, including passing through the opponent and
    appearing on his/her other side.
    * Weird colors: On the vs. 3 endurance match when the 3rd guy jumps out he
usually has the color pallete of the 2nd guy [every see a green
    Nightwolf :)].
