Version 0.75: At this point, this guide is very close to
completion! The first half of the game is now covered here as well.
Check future updates of this guide for more info to be added!

Version 0.5: This is the first version of this guide, but it
isn't complete yet! It is missing most of the walkthrough parts right
now, but look for them to be added little by little.

2. Story

Though you fulfilled the Hyrulian prophecy of the Legendary
Hero and destroyed the evil tyrant Ganon, the land of Hyrule enjoyed
only a precarious peace. "Who knows what threats may arise from Ganon's
ashes?" the restless people murmured as they knitted their brows and
shook their heads. Ever vigilant, you decided to journey away from
Hyrule on a quest for enlightenment, in search of wisdom that would
make you better able to withstand the next threat to your homeland.
Months of difficult travel passed. After a long and fruitful voyage,
you breathed deeply the sea spray from the deck of the ship that
carried you home to Hyrule. But your homecoming was not to be. Suddenly
a squall struck your ship, and though you valiantly fought the waves, a
lightning bolt reduced your ship to splinters.

Your world faded to black as you sink into the darkness of
the storm-tossed sea with the remains of your craft. But in the cold
darkness of the deep, you heard a comforting voice that reminded you of
home. It was the voice of Princess Zelda! "You're going to be all
right!" the voice said. "What a relief!"

You opened your eyes to find Princess Zelda standing over you
- or was it?! Actually, it turned out to be a woman named Marin. She
explained that you had drifted with the wreckage of your ship to the
shores of Koholint Island. This mysterious island was unique for the
gigantic egg, which crowned its central mountain. It was said that a
mythical creature, the Wind Fish, lay asleep inside the egg.

You set out in search of your sword and other gear that might
have washed up on the beach with you. As you stood in the surf with
your recovered sword, a strange owl suddenly appeared and hooted this
riddle:

"Awaken the Wind Fish and all will be answered."

"What is the Wind Fish?" you wonder... And what did its
awakening portend? Your most mysterious adventure yet, following the
riddle of the Wind Fish throughout the uncharted island of Koholint, is
about to unfold.

3. Weapons/Items

Selectable Items/Weapons

Bomb: You can use this item to blow open holes in hollow
walls or defeat many enemies. They are very common because you can buy
them at the Shop in Mabe Village after you purchase the Shovel and
enemies sometimes drop them when defeated.

Boomerang: This has to be one of the strongest weapons in the
game because of its power! You can only get it after you have the
Magnifying Glass. You have to blow open a wall at Toronbo Shores and
trade the item in your B button for it. (The Shovel should be the item
that you trade for the Boomerang.)

Bow and Arrow: This is a very useful weapon in the later
stages of the game. Unfortunately, it costs 980 rupees in the Mabe
Village shop, so you'll have to save up for this item and buy it before
entering the Catfish's Maw. You can also find/buy Arrows for the Bow in
the shop as well.

Hookshot: This is another quite useful item/weapon,
especially in the second half of the game! You find it in the Catfish's
Maw dungeon. This item is helpful because you can shoot it at an object
(pottery, rocks, chests, etc.) and pull yourself to it! You can also
attack enemies by hitting them with it.

Magic Powder: This special powder does quite mysterious
things when used during the game. You can sprinkle it into a darkened
lantern to light it up or sprinkle it on certain enemies to make them
transform! You can either get this for free by finding the Sleepy
Mushroom in the forest and bringing it to the witch in the Witch's Hut,
or by buying it in the Mabe Village shop.

Magic Rod: The Magic Rod is definitely one of the most
powerful items in the game. Too bad you get it in the last dungeon
(Turtle Rock)! You can use it to burn the ice blocks throughout Turtle
Rock or to scorch enemies with! You can also light distant lanterns
with this item/weapon.

Ocarina: This item has some important uses in the game. You
find it in the Dream Shrine after obtaining the Pegasus Boots. You can
learn 3 different songs to play on the Ocarina, each with different
purposes. I'll get into more detail about what each song does, as
they're used throughout the game.

Pegasus Boots: This is another quite useful item! You find it
in the Key Cavern and they allow you to run really fast! You also can
use these boots with the Sword to do a "hit-and-run" attack! They have
other uses, too, but you'll find them out soon enough.

Power Bracelet: When you equip this item, you can lift up
many things you couldn't before! There are 2 different levels of this
item: level 1 is found in Bottle Grotto, and the level 2 one is found
in the Face Shrine dungeon. This item is definitely essential t getting
through the game!

Roc's Feather: This really useful item, found in the Tail
Cave, enables you to jump in the air! You can use it to jump over small
pits and to reach the Winged Items floating in the air. This is
probably one of the most useful items you'll have in this game!

Shield: The Shield is your only protection against most enemy
blows. You get it in the beginning of the game from Tarin, Marin's
father. There are 2 different shields: one is the normal one, and the
other is the Mirror Shield, found in the Eagle's Tower, which can
deflect much more than the regular shield can!

Shovel: This is useful for finding secrets during the first
half of the game, but becomes useless near the end. It can be bought
from the Mabe Village shop for 200 rupees, and it can be used only to
dig up hidden items in the ground.

Sleepy Mushroom: This mushroom, which grows in the Mysterious
Forest, can be used to make Magic Powder. It has no real use except for
making Magic Powder, so I have nothing else to say about this item.

Sword: This is your primary weapon, which you should always
have equipped! You find it washed up on Toronbo Shores and is your only
means of attack in the early parts of the game! There are 2 different
levels of strength of the sword: level 1 is the sword you find at
Toronbo Shores, and you get the level 2 sword in the Seashell Mansion
after collection 20 Secret Seashells!

Inventory (non-selectable) Items

Flippers: These flippers are essential to getting through the
watery sections of the game. You find them in the Angler's Cavern. To
swim with them, hold the Control Pad in the direction you want to go.
Press A to swim faster and press B to dive underwater for a short
period of time.

Golden Leaves: These golden leaves are located in Kanalet
Castle and Richard, the former prince of this castle, asks that you
retrieve these leaves for him. You have to find the leaves in the
castle, then bring them back to Richard and he'll open up a secret
passageway leading to an item you need to continue through the game.

Secret Medicine: This special medicine is a useful item,
especially in really tough parts where you usually die. It refills all
your hearts when you lose them all! You can only buy this medicine from
Crazy Tracy in her house north of the Witch's Hut. The price for this
item is cheap though.

Secret Seashells: These seashells are hidden throughout the
island. There are a total of 26 shells throughout the game, but you'll
only need to collect 20 of them. When you get 20, go to the Seashell
Mansion to get your level 2 Sword!

Dungeon Items

Compass: This item shows you the locations of all unopened
chests in the dungeon you're in. It also makes a sound when you're in a
room with a Key hidden inside.

Map: The Map allows you to see all the rooms of that dungeon
on the sub-menu. Darker colored boxes are rooms you haven't yet entered
and lighter colored boxes are rooms you've been in.

Nightmare Key: This key allows you to open the door leading
to the boss of that dungeon. Small Keys won't open the Nightmare door,
so you must have this key to open it!

Small Key: You use these keys in the dungeons to unlock
locked doors and blocks with keyholes on them. You get these keys by
doing certain things in some rooms or find them in chests.

Stone Beak/Owl Statue: The Stone Beak allows you to hear a
secret from the Owl Statues in that dungeon. You can find the beak in a
treasure chest in each dungeon and there are a couple statues
throughout the dungeon, too.

Other Items

Acorn of Defense: When you get this acorn, your defense power
increases for a period of time. You can keep its strength longer if
enemies don't hit you that much. If you do get hit a lot; its power
will wear off quicker!

Heart: These small hearts recover 1 of your hearts. Enemies
usually drop them when you defeat them, so they're not hard to find!

Heart Containers/Pieces: You can get the Heart Containers,
which adds a heart to your maximum, by defeating the boss of each
dungeon. The Heart Pieces are a bit more difficult to find, though. You
can find them in many places throughout the game, and when you collect
4 of them, your maximum heart capacity increases by one. Read the Heart
Piece Location section of this guide to find out where the Heart Pieces
are located.

Piece of Power: This flashing triangle, sometimes dropped by
enemies, doubles the strength of attacks with your sword. They run out
after a period of time just like the Acorn of Defense.

Rupee: The currency of Koholint Island and all of the other
Zelda games. You find them after defeating enemies, in chests, and in
many other places. You use them to buy items at the shop or for other
purposes.

4. Walkthrough

*** Mabe Village ***

You start the game in a house in Mabe Village, still
unconscious in bed. You wake up and the girl who rescued you, Marin is
talking to you, but you think that she's Princess Zelda! After she
tells you that you're on Koholint Island, jump out of bed and talk to
Tarin, Marin's father. Talk to him and he'll give you your Shield and
it'll be automatically equipped on you. After Tarin gives you your
Shield, leave the house and head left 2 screens, past Madam MeowMeow's
House to the screen with the well. From there, head south a couple more
screens and you'll be at Toronbo Shores.

*** Toronbo Shores ***

In the Toronbo Shores area, continue south to an area with
trees and Octoroks wandering around. Since you can't beat them yet,
avoid them and go down the steps heading south to the beach. From
there, go right a couple screens while avoiding the Leevers until you
reach the screen where your sword is laying. There's an Urchin blocking
your access, so hold up your shield and walk into it to move it until
you can pass, then go around it and walk up to your sword. Then, a
mysterious owl will appear. He'll talk for a while, then tell you to
head to the Mysterious Forest. Then, it'll fly away. When it does, take
your Sword, then defeat the nearby Urchin. Then, go up a screen and
defeat those 2 Urchins as well, then go left and beat 2 more. You
should have gotten a couple rupees at least by beating them. Go up and
left and defeat the other Urchin, then continue left and take the path
north. Take the steps up, then go right and up a couple screens, then
go left again. Take the path north past the 2 kids playing catch, then
continue up and around the path until you see a bush blocking further
access up the path. Cut it down, then go up into the Mysterious Forest.

*** Mysterious Forest ***

When you enter the Mysterious Forest, the owl will fly in
again. It'll tell you about how you must enter the Tail Cave after
finding the Tail Key hidden in the forest. After it leaves, continue up
until you can't go up any further while fighting the Moblins along the
way, and then head right 2 screens. You'll see a cave there; enter it.
Inside the cave, get around the holes while avoiding the Keese and get
up to the next part, then avoid the Gels that come out of the ground to
attack. Then, go left to the next room and you'll see a bunch of large
rocks blocking your exit. Push the ones that will move around until you
make a path that allows you to reach the cave's exit. Then, exit the
cave and go left, then take the Sleepy Toadstool there. Now, go back
right and into the cave again. Push through the blocks there like you
did before, and then get through to the room with the Keese. Go right
and down, then push the rock into the pit, then open the chest to get
50 rupees. Now, go back around and exit the cave. Back outside, go up
the path a couple screens until you reach a scene with a couple Gels
and a Moblin by a cave blocked by large stones. There, go right a
couple more screens, until you reach the area where you see a Heart
Piece on an island surrounded by a bunch of pits. Then, go down a
couple more screens, then right one and you'll be in front of the
Witch's Hut. Go inside and put the Sleepy Mushroom in your inventory,
then walk up to the witch and press the button the mushroom was
assigned to and you'll give it to her. She'll then use it and give you
back Magic Powder, which is going to be useful throughout the game.
Now, leave the hut and go left a screen, then up two. Next, go left a
couple screens, then down until you're back in the scene with the
entrance to that cave you went through before. Then, go left one
screen, then up one to a screen with a raccoon standing there. Go up to
it and sprinkle Magic Powder on it and it'll bounce around the room,
then turn into Tarin! After he's done talking, go up a screen and open
the chest there to get the Tail Key! Then, the owl will appear and tell
you to now head to the Tail Cave with your key. After it flies away, go
back down around 3 or 4 screens until you can't go down any further,
then go left 1 screen. Next, go down a couple more screens until you're
out of the forest completely.

Now, continue south a few more screens until you're on that
screen just south of the Library where the 2 kids are playing ball.
Then, head east until you can't go any further, then go down and around
and go left. Next, go south and east to the Tail Cave's entrance. Go up
to the keyhole and you'll put the key in, opening the gates to the
cave. Now, go up and enter the Tail Cave!

*** Tail Cave ***

When you enter this dungeon, go left into the next room. In
this room, hit the 2 Hardhat Beetles with your sword so they fall into
the pit, then take the key that appears. Continue left to the next
room. Here, defeat the 4 Gels that come out of the ground then open the
chest to get the Compass. Then, leave the room and go right back to the
first room. Now, go up into the next room and defeat the small Gels and
knock the Hardhat Beetle into the pit. Then, step on the switch to make
a chest appear; open it to get a key. Next, go right to the next room.
In this room, defeat the 2 Stalfos and 2 Keese to make a chest appear,
then open it to get the Map. Then, go up through the one-way door, then
in the next room, go left into the following room. In this room, defeat
the Mini Moldorm while trying to avoid the Sparks, then open the chest
to get a Key. Now, go left into the next room and defeat the Mini
Moldorm to make another chest appear. Open it to get 20 rupees. Now, go
up into the next room. Here, defeat the Keese, then activate the Blade
Trap and stand back. As it retracts, run past and unlock the door, then
enter the next room. Here, go right, then up and around the blocks
while trying to avoid the small Gels and Sparks. Then, go back left and
to a closed door; you'll see a lone block nearby. Push it in any
direction to unlock the door. Now, enter the next room, where you'll
encounter 2 Spiked Beetles. Flip them over with your shield, and then
defeat them with your sword to make a staircase appear. Go down the
steps into the basement area, then go down and left while defeating the
Goombas along the way. Keep going left, then up the ladder at the end
to enter a new room. Here, go up the hallway until you reach the room
with the Blade Traps. Activate them, then run past when they return to
where they were, and then open the chest to get Roc's Feather. Now, get
past the Blade Traps and leave the room. Use the feather to take the
Winged Heart while going down the hall so you can get all your hearts
filled! Continue down to the steps, and then go right through the
basement again. When you emerge in the other room again, go right into
the next room. Here, simply jump over the pit and go down into the next
room. Here, avoid the Blade Trap and Keese and continue down to the
following room. In that room, go right into the following room, then in
that room, take the path above the block to the next room. Then, go
right and up into the next room. Jump across the pit and walk into the
block with a keyhole on it to make it disappear, then go up the steps
and left to the next room. There, open the chest to get the Nightmare
Key. Now, backtrack a few rooms back to the room with the Mini Moldorm
and the Sparks then take the lower path right to the next room. Here,
go right and unlock the door, then enter the next room. Here, go up
into the next room and defeat the Three-of-a-Kind enemies to make a
chest appear. Open it to get the Stone Beak. Now, leave the room, then
jump over the pit to the right and enter the next room to fight the
Rolling Bones mini-boss. After you beat it, take the Fairy and go up to
the next room. Avoid the Blade Traps here and make your way to the
other side of the room, then use the Nightmare Key to unlock the door,
then enter that room to enter the lair of Moldorm, the Tail Cave boss.
Read the Boss Strategies section of this guide for info on beating it.
After you beat it, take the Heart Container, then go up into the next
room and claim the Full Moon Cello!

After you get warped back outside the Tail Cave, go left to
the next screen and the owl will be there waiting. It'll tell you that
you need to collect all the instruments and that you should head to
Goponga Swamp. After it leaves, go up another screen and hop over the
hole in the ground, then continue left. Keep going left until you see
the path going north, and then follow it to the next scene only to be
stopped by those 2 kids! They'll tell you that BowWow, Madam MeowMeow's
chained dog, was kidnapped by a gang of Moblins! After they stop
talking, continue north all the way into the Mysterious Forest. Get
through the forest all the way to the screen where a Heart Piece is on
a platform surrounded by a bunch of pits. Jump over a pit, take the
Heart Piece, then jump over the upper pit and continue up the next
area. Here, go up and right to the following screen. You'll see a cave
there; enter it. Defeat the lone Moblin in the first room, then go up
to the next room and beat some more Moblins. After you beat them, go
right into the next room to fight the King Moblin. Beat it by dodging
its arrows until it charges at you. Move out of the way so it crashes
into the wall, then while it's dazed, hit it with your sword. Repeat
that process until it's defeated, then go to the last room to free
BowWow; just walk up to the rock it's chained on to free it. Now, get
out of the cave and go back left and down into the forest. Go west
through the forest to the chest where the Tail Key was, then cut the
bushes around it and take the path left. Follow it left, up, then back
to the right to the Goponga Swamp.

*** Goponga Swamp ***

When you arrive by the swamp, go up to the next screen. Have
BowWow eat the Goponga Flowers, then continue right to the next area.
Next, go right, but take the last path going down to the next screen.
BowWow will automatically eat the large Goponga Flower there! Then, go
right and open the chest to get 50 rupees. Now, go back around to the
room with the large Goponga Flower and take the upper-right path this
time. Have BowWow eat some of the flowers blocking access to the cave
there. Then, enter the cave, which is the Bottle Grotto (Level 2).

*** Bottle Grotto ***

When you enter this dungeon, just go straight up to the next
room. Here, the room is darkened and the doors are locked. To light
them and open the doors, go up the steps and sprinkle Magic Powder in
both of the lanterns. They'll light up and open the door, then go right
and into the next room. In this room, defeat the 2 Stalfos and take the
Key that appears after you beat them. Use the key to open the door,
then go down into the next room. In this room, beat the Mask-Mimic as
described in the Enemies section of this guide to make a chest appear.
Open it to get the Compass, then exit the room and once in the previous
room, go right into the following room. Here, hit the Crystal Switch
with your sword, and then go down into the next room. In this room,
beat the Sword Stalfos if you want, then hit the Crystal Switch and
open the chest to get a Key. Now, stand on the lowered block platform
right next to the switch, and then hit the switch again to raise them.
Now, jump right onto the other raised blocks, and then continue to the
next room. Here, jump across the pits while making your way to the
switch as well as the Crystal Switch on the other side. Stand on the
switch to make a chest appear; open it to get another Key. Then, go
left and up into the next room. Here, beat both the Mask-Mimics with
your Spinning Sword Attack to make a key appear. Now, go back down to
the Crystal Switch in the previous room and hit it. Then, jump back
across the pits back left and into the next room. Hit the switch there
and then go up into the following room. Here, just go right into the
other room and take the Key there. Now, backtrack all the way back to
the room where you fought those 2 Mask-Mimics, but you have to remember
that you have to hit the right Crystal Switches like before to get
there! When you get there, go right into the next room. Here, beat the
2 Spiked Beetles if you want, then unlock the door and enter the next
room. In this room, push the 2 blocks together to make steps appear; go
down them into the side-view area. Here, ride the platform to the other
side, then jump off and continue to the next half. Here, jump on the
platform when it's low enough, then ride it to the top and go up the
ladder to the next room. This room is darkened, but you shouldn't have
trouble seeing the floor if you're playing this with the GB Color unit.
Jump onto the middle platform and jump up and take the Winged Hearts.
Then, go up and through the one-way door into a room where you must
fight the Hinox! Just keep attacking it with your sword until it's
defeated; after you beat it, take the Fairy and go right to the next
room. Here, just go right and up while avoiding the Keese, then go up
into the next room. In this room, make your way to the chest while
avoiding the Keese and the Vacuum Mouth, then open it to get the Map.
Now, go up into the next room. There, beat the Keese and take the
Winged Magic Powder, then open the chest to get 20 rupees. Then, unlock
the door to the left and enter that room. Here, light a lantern with
some powder, and then beat the Boo Buddies to make another chest
appear. Open it to get the Power Bracelet, another really useful item!
Now, leave the room and lift up the pots behind the chest, then
continue to the next room. In this room, go right and hit the Crystal
Switch, then stand on the lowered block in the middle, then hit the
switch again to lower the other ones. Then, stand on the lowered blocks
to the right and hit the switch again to raise them while you're
standing on them. Open the chest nearby to get a Key. Then, continue
right to the next room; there, just keep going to the room after it. In
this room, just go right and down into the next room. To get the
Nightmare Key, you must defeat the 3 enemies here in the exact order I
tell you here, otherwise you won't get it. First, push the blocks
around so you can hit the Pols Voice surrounded by blocks. Defeat the
Pols Voice by throwing a pot at it. Then, defeat the Keese in the
lower-right corner of the room. Finally, beat the Shrouded Stalfos and
a chest should appear. Open it to get the Nightmare Key. Now, leave the
room and unlock the door with a key, then enter that room. Beat the
Pols Voices and the Gel by throwing pots at them, then go down the
steps that appear. In the first scene, just ride down the stone
elevator, then go left to the next room. Here, pick up a pot, then
climb the ladder and stand on the next elevator. It'll weigh down this
trap elevator, allowing you to go down it! Then, go left and up the
elevator to the next room. In this room, go down and around, then jump
across the pits to the door, and then use the Nightmare Key to open it.
Then, enter the room where the boss, the Genie. Read the Boss
Strategies section of this guide for info on beating it. After you beat
it, take the Heart Container, then go to the next room and take the
Conch Horn!

After you are brought back outside the Bottle Grotto, have
BowWow eat a passageway through the flowers, then go down to the next
screen. Then, go down and use the Power Bracelet to lift up the 2
stones, then continue south to the next screen. Jump over the pits, and
then continue south, then east to the Witch's Hut. Jump over the pit
there, and then go south some more until you reach another rock that
you must lift up. Lift it up, and then go down until you reach the
path. Take it west and lift another rock and cut down a bush, then
enter Mabe Village again.

*** Mabe Village ***

When you enter Mabe Village from the east, go west, then
south and west again to Madam MeowMeow's House. Go inside and talk to
her and she'll thank you for taking care of BowWow, then give you a
kiss, heh.. Now, leave the house and BowWow will once again be chained
outside to its post. Now, you should have enough rupees on you to buy
the Shovel by now, so it's time to head to the Shop. Go in and buy the
Shovel (it would help if you did the Money Saving Trick here). Then,
buy some Bombs as well. Then, leave the shop and head east to the next
screen and cut down the bushes and lift up the rocks. Then, continue
right into Ukuku Prairie.

*** Ukuku Prairie ***

From the start of this large, open area, go right along the
path until you reach the warp. From there, go south a few screens, past
the keyhole for the Key Cavern, then go right 1 screen. Next, continue
down until you reach a building. Go inside and talk to the guy, whose
name is Richard. He'll give you the key for that keyhole you passed if
you go to Kanalet Castle and retrieve the 5 Golden Leaves for him.
Agree to help him, then leave the villa and continue east. When the
path turns, follow it north, and then follow it right one screen.
Continue up the path going north until you reach the Telephone Booth.
From there, go right one screen, then up one and you'll be at the gate
of Kanalet Castle. Since the gate's up, go right and you'll meet Kiki
the Monkey. You must have already gotten the Bananas from the Trading
Process in order to continue. Give Kiki the Bananas and it'll call its
monkey friends to make a bridge to cross the small stream. Take the
Stick they leave behind, then continue up across the bridge and into
the next scene. Keep going up until you reach another Telephone Booth,
then go left and you'll see a lone bush there. Cut it down, and then go
descend the stairs there. In that side-view area beat the Goombas, then
continue left. Jump over the 2 spike pits with Roc's Feather, then
climb the ladder and you'll be inside the walls of Kanalet Castle!

*** Kanalet Castle ***

Once you're inside the castle's walls, your job is to find
the 5 Golden Leaves. First, head right and defeat the Soldier there.
Then, go down to the next area and you'll see 6 holes in the ground and
the Mad Bomber randomly pops out of them. Hit the bomber 4 times to
make him give up the first Golden Leaf. Next, go down and beat a couple
more Soldiers, then go left a couple screens. Defeat another Soldier,
then go up one screen and beat yet another Soldier. Then, lift up a
rock and throw it at the tree the Crow is sitting in. That'll make it
fly out after you; hit it with your sword a couple times to beat it and
get the 2nd Leaf. Now, go back down and right and you'll see an entrance
into the castle; go in it and explore the inside of the castle. Once
inside, take the hallway left to the next room. Here, defeat the Gel
and 2 sword-less Soldiers to make the next Golden Leaf appear. Take it,
then go up to the next room. Avoid the Soldiers here and go right to
the following room. Defeat the Keese and sword-less Soldier, then stand
on the switch there to lower the gate in front of the castle, then go
up the nearby steps and go left. Go left and up the stairs to the next
floor. There, go down the steps in front of you and put a bomb in front
of the left wall statue. It'll explode and a Soldier will come out so
watch out! Beat the Soldier to get the 4th Leaf. Now, go up the steps
and go right, then down. Next, go left and down and exit the castle.
Back outside, go right and reenter the castle through the other
doorway. Pick up a pot here and throw it at the closed door to open it.
Go in that room and fight the Knight mini-boss. After you beat it, take
the final Leaf and exit the room and go outside again. Reenter the
other doorway and get through the castle all the way back to the first
floor. Then, continue through until you're completely outside the
castle with the task you were sent there for accomplished!

From the castle, go south and across the now lowered gate.
Then, continue south and left with the path, past the Phone Booth, then
south some more. Keep going down and follow the path south util it
ends, then continue down and left to Richard's Villa. Give him the
Golden Leaves and he'll step aside; push the dresser to reveal a hidden
stairway. Go down it, then take the path up and left and push the rock
into the pit, then open the chest to get a Secret Seashell. Then, go
back and take the right path up and go up the steps at the end to be
brought up to a field behind the villa. Please refer to the map, coming
soon to GameFAQs for help getting through the "maze" of bushes. After
you get to the other side by the owl statue, cut down the bush in front
of it and use the Shovel to dig where the bush was. Take the Slime Key
that you dig up, then get back around through the bush maze and back
through the cave into Richard's Villa. After you leave the villa,
follow the path up and left, then up again. You should see a keyhole
there; go up to it and your key will automatically be put in and the
gate will open. To get inside this dungeon, go back south to Richard's
Villa, then east and north again. When you're able to go left towards
the water, go left and down along the left side of the trees to the
next screen. Here, jump onto the island to the left and go left to the
next screen. Jump across a couple more islands and continue left to the
following screen. Here, go into the now open cave to enter the Key
Cavern, also known as Level 3.

*** Key Cavern ***

When you enter this dungeon, lift up a pot on either side of
you and throw it at the closed door to open it. Go through that door to
the next room. In this room, defeat the enemies to make a chest appear.
Open it to get a Key. Then, take the path north of the chest (the right
path) to the next room. Walk up through this room and beat the Gels
that appear. Open the chest if you want to fight another Gel, otherwise
don't touch the chest and continue up to the next room. In this room,
either defeat or ignore the 2 Stalfos because beating them won't do
anything because you can't reach the small Gel until later in this
level. Then, go up into the next room. Here, just run to the stairs and
go down them to the next floor. Here, defeat the Gels here if you want,
then use the Key to open the south door, then go into that room. There,
defeat the Pairodd, the Shrouded Stalfos, and a couple of Gels to make
a Key appear. Take the Key as it moves along the moving floor. Then, go
back up to the previous room and open the west door. Here, beat the
Pairodds and a couple more Gels to make another Key appear. Take it and
the Winged Hearts if you need the health, then go back right to the
middle room. Now, unlock the north door and go into that room. Defeat
the Stalfos and the Shrouded Stalfos to make another Key appear. Take
it, then go down to the previous room. Go right and unlock that door,
then go around the room while trying to avoid the Pairodd and Keese,
then go up the steps at the end. In the next room, go around this room
and beat all the Gels that come out of the ground to make a Key appear.
Take the Key and go up into the next room. Here, simply go left to the
following room and defeat all the Gels there to open the doors. Go into
the north room to fight the Dodongo Snakes! To beat them quickly,
defeat one of them, then go up the steps at the bottom of the screen
and go down to the next room. Then, go back up and the one you didn't
kill will be dead! After you beat them and the warp appear, go right
into the next room and go around until you can't anymore. Then, push
the blocks around to make a path, then open the chest to get the
Pegasus Boots! Now, take the nearby Winged Hearts if you want, then use
the Pegasus Boots and the Sword to ram through the crystal-like
obstacles. Then, push the block at the end and go down to the next
room. In this room, bomb the right wall between the 2 candles, then go
right through the hole to the next room. In this room, use the Pegasus
Boots and Roc's Feather to jump across the pit, then go up the steps
and to the next room. Here, go up and jump across the smaller pit, then
open the chest to get the Nightmare Key. Next, jump off the ledge and
go up to the next room. Here, beat the Bombites that count down then
explode as well as the Gels, then go left to the next room. Here, beat
the Shrouded Stalfos and the Gels. Also, open the chest to get the
Compass. Then, bomb the lower half of the left wall to make a hole in
it, then go through that hole to the next room. Here, beat the Bombites
to make a Key appear. Take it, then backtrack a few rooms back to the
room where you got the Nightmare Key on the higher ledge. There, go
left into the next room, then go down to the following room. Next, go
left and defeat the Gels there, then go through the left door this time
to the next room. Here, defeat the Pairodds and Gels, then take the Key
that appears. Next, go up through the one-way door into the next room.
Beat the Gels and Stalfos to make a chest appear. Now, go through the
next one-way door to the following room. In this room, beat the
Bombites and Sword Stalfos, then lift up and throw away a pot and take
the Winged Bombs. Then, go around and up the steps, then go down to the
next room. Here, open the chest to get 50 rupees, then go down to the
following room. Just go right, then down the steps and push the block
away, then go through the north door to the warp that appeared after
you beat the Dodongo Snakes; go in the warp to reach the level's
entrance again. Here, go right into the room there. Wait until the
Vacuum Mouth pauses, and then use the Pegasus Boots and Roc's Feather
to get to the other side of the room quickly. Then, beat the trap and
open the chest to get a Key. Now, leave the room and throw a pot at the
north door to open it, then enter the next room. This time, take the
left path up through the next couple of rooms. Run through the crystals
with the boots, then in the following room, beat the small Gel. Now,
backtrack to the room with the Bombites and take the right path up.
When you get to the room with the Stalfos, beat them and open the chest
that appears to get 200 rupees! Now, backtrack again to the dungeon's
entrance and take the warp to the Dodongo Snakes room. Go down out of
the room, and then go around and up, unlocking all the keyhole blocks
along the way. At the end, go down the steps and go right. Use the
Pegasus Boots to ram the Mega Thwomp, then continue right to the next
part. Here, use the boots and Roc's Feather to jump across the spike
pit, then grab onto the ladder by the pipe. Then, go up it and down the
other ladder to the next room. In this room, defeat the Pairodds with
help from your Pegasus Boots and sword. Take the Winged Hearts if
needed, then go to the next room. Ignore the Keese and unlock the north
door with the Nightmare Key to enter the boss's room. After it taunts
you from its hiding place, ram the wall to shake it off the ceiling and
make it come down. Read the Boss Strategies section of this guide for
info on beating the Slime Eyes. After you beat them, take the Heart
Container and go up into the next room and take the Sea Lily's Bell,
the third Instrument!

After you get warped back outside again, go right one screen
and the owl will fly in again. It'll tell you to head towards the Yarna
Desert. After it leaves, continue right across the islands, then go
north and east. Continue going north, and then go east until the path
splits. Take the path going south and continue south 2 screens, then go
east. Here, you should see a bush at the right half of the scene; cut
down the bush and go down the steps into a cavern. Get through it while
avoiding the Sharks and using the Pegasus Boots to get through the
crystals, then take the steps up to the outside. From there, go south a
few more screens, then go east the first chance you get and enter the
Animal Village.

*** Animal Village ***

When you enter the Animal Village, go right one screen and
down one. You'll see a building there; go inside and meet Chef Bear.
Talk to him and he'll tell you about the sleeping walrus by the
entrance to the desert and Marin is the only one who can wake it! Now,
leave here and go left a screen, then go south and east to the walrus.
Talk to it, then backtrack until you're in the village again, and then
go back to Chef Bear's place. From there, go down 1 screen, then left 1
and jump into the warp to be brought to the entrance to Mabe Village.

When you land, go left and lift the stones out of the way to
enter the village. Then, go left a screen and up one, then lift the
stones out of the way and enter the building, the Dream Shrine.

*** Dream Shrine ***

Inside the Dream Shrine, go into the bed and you'll be warped
into the Dream Shrine itself. There, use your sword and Pegasus Boots
to dash through all the Arm Mimics as you make your way all the way
around the shrine. When you reach the first set of steps, go up them
and up the next set, and then open the chest at the next screen to get
100 rupees. Then, go back down and ram through the crystal and go up
the other steps. Open the chest to get the Ocarina. Now, go back down
one set of steps and jump off the ledge and exit the dream and wake up.
Then just exit the Dream Shrine with your new item!

From the Dream Shrine, head south a couple of screens, then
head west all the way to the well. Then, go south to the Toronbo Shores
area. From there, continue south all the way to the scene where you
reach the Octoroks. From that point, go east for a while until you
finally reach a scene with a treasure chest and a couple of rocks
blocking your access. Go south from there to the beach and you'll find
Marin! You and Marin will sit there and talk for a little bit by the
shore. After a while, she'll figure out that you're there because the
walrus needs her. Then, she'll come with you until you reach the
walrus! Now, get back to Mabe Village by going west and north along the
shore areas. When you get to the village, continue east and north, past
the shop, then lift up the stones and head out to Ukuku Prairie. Next,
go east another screen and jump back into the warp to be brought back
to a pond right next to the Animal Village. From the warp, go east,
then up the steps into the Animal Village. From there, go west and
south out of the village again, then continue east to the walrus.
Simply walk up to it and say yes when Marin asks if she should wake it,
then she'll sing. It'll wake up and fall into the sea, allowing you
access to the desert! A rabbit will appear and Marin will tell you that
she'll be at the Animal Village if you need her. Now, just go east into
the Yarna Desert.

*** Yarna Desert ***

Upon entering the desert, go north until you reach the
quicksand area. The Lanmola will them emerge and you'll have to fight
it. Slash it with your sword whenever it jumps out of the sand until
it's defeated. After you beat it, take the Angler Key it leaves behind
and you'll automatically sink into the quicksand into a cave below. Go
right through the cave, then up the steps at the end to get back
outside again. From the cave exit, go left to the quicksand area again.
Now, go south one screen. Take the left route south so you're on the
higher ledge, and then continue south. At the next scene, the owl will
appear and talk to you about where the next dungeon is. After it
leaves, go down and left, then jump off the ledge and go west.

Go left another screen, then up a couple into the Animal
Village again. Talk to Marin and she'll compliment you about your new
Ocarina and she'll teach you a song, "The Ballad of the Wind Fish".
It'll be song "1" on your Ocarina if you want to play it again. Now, go
right a screen, then down to the small pond south of the village. Then,
go left into the warp to be brought back to Ukuku Prairie just outside
Mabe Village. When you land, go up a screen and up the steps, then lift
up the stone and continue to the following screen. Now, continue north
while lifting any stones along the way until you can't go north, but
east or west. Take the path east and lift up the stones there, then go
up to the next screen. Next, go left a screen and take the path there
up another screen. There, lift up the stones in your way and take the
higher route east to the Eastern Tal Tal Mountains region.

*** Eastern Tal Tal Mountains ***

Now, keep going east all the way to the water area, then lift
the stone there and continue right one more screen. Then, go down the
steps to the scene at the bottom. Then, take the path up alongside the
steps you just descended then go right until you reach the keyhole.
Walk up to it and the Angler Key will go in and reveal the dungeon in
the waterfall. At this point, go back west to the steps again and climb
up them, then continue left and lift up the stone in the way. Then,
continue along the path going west until you reach another set of
stairs; go up them. Then, lift the stones in the way and enter the cave
there. Get through this room while avoiding the Keese and Gels, as well
as the Hardhat Beetle there, then push the stones around at the end and
go down the steps to the next room. In the next room, go right all the
way to the steps and go up then to the next room. Here, go down and
right and you'll see an exit to the outside. Once outside, open the
chest to get 50 rupees, then go back into the cave. Now, dash through
the crystals with the boots, then go out the other exit to the outside.
Now, go right a screen, then down the steps and continue east. Keep
going until you reach a dry area with a ledge you can jump off of. Drop
off the cliff and you'll land right in front of the next dungeon,
Angler's Tunnel. Then, just go inside the Level 4 dungeon!

*** Angler's Tunnel ***

When you enter the Angler's Tunnel, go up into the following
room. Here, defeat the Spiked Beetles and the Gel to open the east
door, and then go right to the next room. Here, beat the Spiked Beetles
and a Gel to open the south and west doors. Then, open the chest to get
the Compass. Next, go down into the south room. Here, get across the
room and jump over the deep sections of water while avoiding the Water
Tektites. Cut down the crystal-like things, then open the chest to get
a Key. Then, go back up and leave the room. Then, go back left a couple
rooms, then up the steps and right to the next room. Continue right to
the following room, then go down the steps and open the chest to get
the Stone Beak. Now, go back up the steps and to the previous room.
Next, go up through the next couple of rooms, and then go right. Then,
go up and open the chest there to get the Map. Then, go down the steps
and use the Pegasus Boots and Roc's Feather to jump across the pit,
then go right to the next room. Here, bomb the cracked block, and then
open the push the solid block into the water. Next, open the chest to
get a Key. Next, go up to the next room. Avoid the Peahats and Water
Tektites here, then continue up to the following room. Here, destroy
the cracked block with a bomb, then open the next chest to get another
Key. Then, jump over the small area of deep water to the left and grab
the Winged Hearts in the air, then go back across and leave the room.
Go back down through this room to the next one, and then go left into
the following room. Now, get back across the pit and go up the steps,
then go left to the next room. Now, continue south and west until you
reach the room with the Gel and Spiked Beetles. Beat them and go right
into the next room. Then, just go right through that room and unlock
the right door and enter the following room. In the following room, get
around that room and unlock the door at the end with your Key and enter
the next room. In this room, just run straight through and into the
following room. Here, beat the Gels, then use the boots and feather to
jump across the pit to the north platform and continue up to the next
room. Here, use the last key you have to make the keyhole block
disappear. Then, push the block behind it upward, and then go left to
the next room. Here, just avoid the Gels for now and head down through
the next couple rooms. Jump across the deep waters, then go left one
room, then go left a couple rooms while staying along the shallow
areas. Then, go up another couple rooms while avoiding the Peahats and
Sword Stalfos. In the room above the one with the Peahats, open the
chest if you want to fight another Gel, then continue up to the
following room. In this room, just avoid the Water Tektites, then go
right to the next room. In this room, just open the chest to get a Key.
Now, backtrack through quite a few rooms until you reach the room with
the 2 Gels and a locked door. Unlock that door and enter the room to
fight the Cue Ball mini-boss. After you beat it, take the Fairy if you
need it, then go up into the next room. Here, go in the room and wait
for the blocks to lock you in the room, then pull the switch in the
upper-right corner of the room using the Power Bracelet. After you pull
it all the way back, quickly let go and get through the west exit
before the blocks close again and into the next room. Here, beat the
Gels, then go up the steps and open the chest to get the Flippers!
Then, go down into the next room. Here, step on the tiles in the order
they're flashing to open the door you just came through. Remember that
pattern for another part of the level! Now, go down into the next room.
Here, just go down and swim in the deep water right to the following
room. In this room, beat the Gels to make a Key fall through the hole
to the floor below. Now, go right to the next room and just get past
the enemies and go down the stairs. In the basement, ride the platform
across the spiked pit, and then go left into the next room. Dive into
the water here and take the Key at the bottom of the pool. Then, get
out and go back right the way you came and up the ladder again. Now, go
left a couple rooms, then in the second room, push the block out of the
way and continue left to the next room. Here, defeat the Water
Tektites, and then stand on each of the 5 tiles in the order they were
flashing in the room after you've acquired the Flippers. After you do
that, stairs will appear; go down them. In the basement, walk under the
large Spiked Thwomp so it falls, then quickly walk back to avoid
getting crushed. Then, as it goes back up, run left to the next screen.
There, assign the Pegasus Boots and Roc's Feather on both buttons, then
dash left and jump onto the ladder so the other Spiked Thwomp falls.
Then, climb the ladder and jump on the Thwomp on its way up, then jump
to the left ledge and go up the ladder to the next room. In this room,
go down to the following room, and open the chest to get the Nightmare
Key. Now, go back to the previous screen and drop off the ledge and go
right to the next room. Here, swim across through the deep water to the
small platform with the switch on it. Stand on the switch to open the
door, then go up to the next room. In this room, take the Winged
Hearts, then use the Key on the keyhole block there to make it vanish,
then go up and left, then down the steps. In the entire basement area,
just go left while defeating the Cheep Cheeps if you want, then go up
the ladder at the end into a new room. Here, just go left to the
following room and push the block in front of you forward. Then, defeat
the Gels if you want then go up and open the door with the Nightmare
Key. In the next room, just go down the steps and into another watery
area. In this room, just dive into the water and go down to meet the
Angler Fish boss! Read the Boss Strategies section for info on beating
it. After you beat it, take the Heart Container and go up out of the
water and go up the ladders to the room above. Now, just go north into
the next room and take the Surf Harp!

5. Color Dungeon Walkthrough

There is a hidden dungeon only accessible if you're playing
Zelda DX in the Game Boy Color unit. To get into it, go to the
Graveyard and look for the section of it with only 5 tombstones on the
screen. First, go to the bottom center stone and push it downward.
Next, push the lower left stone to the left. Then, push the upper left
stone upward. Next, push the middle stone in the top row to the right.
Finally, push the upper right tombstone upward to reveal the stairs
leading into the dungeon! In the first room inside, talk to the two
color guys at the top of the screen and answer both of their questions
to pass them. In the next room, defeat the 3 color enemies that come
out of the ground, then enter the room to the right. In this room,
there are 4 colored eyeball statues; two are red, two are blue. Your
job is to strike them with your sword until they're all blue. Whenever
you hit one, the statues to its sides change color, so keep that in
mind. To make this set entirely blue, strike the top-left statue, then
the bottom-right one; they'll all be blue and a chest will appear. Open
the chest to get the Compass, then go to the next room. In the next
room, bounce your way across the multi-colored tiles to the other side,
then go through the right door to the next room. In this room, there
are two creatures: one with a red shell, one with a blue. There are
also two holes in the room, one with a red rim and the other one with a
blue rim. You have to strike the shell guys so they curls up into their
shells, then pick them up with the Power Bracelet or hit them with your
sword into their corresponding holes. Open the chest that appears to
get the Stone Beak, then go down (not up) to the next room. In the next
room, defeat the 4 color enemies that come out of the floor to attack
like before to open the door to the next room. Continue into the next
room and you'll see those multi-colored tiles again with a couple
flying enemies above them. Bounce across towards the solid piece of
land with a chest on it while trying to avoid the floating enemies,
then open the chest to get a Key. Next, bounce to the top of the room
and go through the one-way door; in the room you end up in, go right
and you'll be in the room that you can go either up or down. This time,
go up and into the other room. In this room, simply bounce across to
the other side of the room and go up to the following room. In the next
room, you'll see 4 eyeball statues like before, and you have to make
them all blue again! To make them all blue this time, hit the bottom-
right statue once, then hit the top-left one twice to turn it blue,
making a Key appear. Take the Key and enter the next room to the right.
Defeat the 3 color creatures that come out of the ground to open the
door, then enter the room at the top of the screen to meet one of the
mini-bosses! The "Big Gel" mini-boss is similar to the first form of
the Nightmare bosses; the sword doesn't affect it. Instead, get close
to it and use Magic Powder on it to hurt it. Repeat this process until
it's defeated, then head left. Go down a small bit and walk up to the 3
movable blocks in your way. Push the top and bottom ones forward, and
then push the middle one downward to clear the way. Go up to the chest
and open it to get the Nightmare Key, then exit the room. Backtrack
quite a few rooms towards the dungeon's entrance until you're in the
room with the colored tiles and a locked door at the top of the screen.
Bounce up to the door and open it with the Key, then go through it to
the room behind it to reach the second mini-boss! This rock creature
will jump in the air and make boulders fall down after you, so use
Roc's Feather to avoid getting stopped when it hits the ground! Try and
get close to it, then strike it with your sword. Repeat the process
until he's defeated, then take the Fairy that appears to recover your
health, then enter the next room to the left. Defeat the two bouncing
winged enemies in this room then make your way across the bouncing
tiles to the upper-left corner of the room where you'll find a pot.
Lift up the pot and stand on the switch beneath it to open the doors,
then go through the door at the top of the screen. In this room, defeat
all the Gels that come out of the floor when you walk by to make a
chest appear. Open it to get the Map, then enter the room to the right.
In the next room, there are 4 of those colored shell enemies that you
have to put into their own holes! Do like you did before in the room
with only two of them until they're all in their own holes. After
they're where they all belong, a Key will appear. Take the Key and
backtrack a couple rooms back to the one with the switch under the pot.
This time, enter the door to the left. You'll see 9 of those eyeball
statues that all have to be turned blue! The quickest way to make them
all blue is to hit them in this order. First, hit the center statue,
and then hit the one directly to the right of it. Then, hit the left
one in the middle row, then the middle statue in the top row. Next, hit
the middle one in the bottom row, and then hit the center one again.
They should all become blue and the door will open; go through the door
at the top of the screen. In the next room, just go through the left
door to the following room. Walk along the bottom wall and hit the
crystal at the end of the path to lower the blocks near the top of the
room. Then, go around and open the door with the Nightmare Key, then
enter the room and get ready for the real boss! Read the Boss
Strategies section of this guide for info on beating it (it's listed
right after the 6 Shadows). After you beat it, go right to the next
room and talk to the Fairy. She'll give you the power of color, which
is either the Red or Blue Mail. The Red Mail makes it so that whenever
you attack, it hits as if you have collected a Piece of Power, and the
Blue Mail protects you from attacks as if you've collected a Guardian
Acorn. Pick whichever you want, and the Fairy will escort you back
outside. You can always go through the dungeon again and talk to the
Fairy to change your color if you want!

6. Enemies

Legend

S = Sword
M = Magic Powder
H = Hookshot
R = Magic Rod
P = Power Bracelet

(Note: I am NOT mentioning the Boomerang as a weapon to use
in this section because it can defeat almost every enemy!)

Overworld Enemies

Armos
Effective Weapons/Items: B, A
Description: This statue, seemingly lifeless, comes to life
when you touch it. You can get past it without awakening it by holding

off your shield without coming alive!

Beetle
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, M, R, B, A

holes in Ukuku Prairie. They are very easy to defeat, so the Beetle is
definitely NOT an enemy to worry about!

Bomber
Effective Weapons/Items: S, M, R, A
Description: These annoying winged mushrooms drop bombs on
you. They usually fly away when you get close and attempt to attack
with your sword, so use a long distance weapon to take it out!

Buzz Blob
Effective Weapons/Items: H, M, R, B, A
Description: This creature looks harmless from the outside,
but he delivers a powerful jolt if you attack it directly! Avoid its
shock attack by hitting it with anything else EXCEPT the Sword. You

Crow
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, R, B, A
Description: This black bird is only found in 2 parts of the
game: in Tabahl Wasteland and just inside the outside walls of Kanalet
Castle. It is very easy to beat when you do encounter it, though.

Cukeman
Effective Weapons/Items: H, R, B, A
Description: This walking blob can be considered both a bad
guy and a good guy in a way. The good part is that if you go up to and
talk to it, it will talk, but whatever it says doesn't make sense! The
bad part is if you hit it with your sword, it'll shock you just like
the Buzz Blob.

Fish
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, M, R, B, A
Description: This fish inhabits the Goponga Swamp. All it
does is swim just below the surface of the murky swamp and jump out of
the water every now and then. You can just beat it by attacking when
it's above the surface.

Flying Octorok
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, M, R, B, A
Description: This is a winged version of the regular Octorok.
It attacks by spitting rocks from its mouth at you. If you go and try
to attack it with your sword, it'll fly to another location and spit
rocks at you! Defeat it by using the Spinning Sword Attack or with a
long distance weapon.

Ghost
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, R, B, A
Description: This specter is only found in the cemetery, and
it only appears when you touch a tombstone. Defeat them with a bunch of
blows from your sword or another one of your weapons.

Giant Ghini
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, R, B, A
Description: As its name implies, it's a larger version of
the Ghost. Luckily, it only appears from one tombstone in the entire
cemetery! Defeat it like you did the Ghost and a Fairy will appear as a
reward.

Giant Goponga Flower
Effective Weapons/Items: H, R
Description: This is an oversized swamp-dwelling flower that
shoots small balls at you to attack. You can't harm it directly, but
BowWow can eat it! When you don't have BowWow anymore, use the Magic
Rod or the Hookshot to defeat it.

Goponga Flower
Effective Weapons/Items: H, R
Description: Like its larger counterpart, this flower cannot
be harmed directly by most weapons. Have BowWow eat these flowers when
you have him or just use the Hookshot or Magic Rod to beat them.

Leever
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, M, R, B, A
Description: This creature, mainly found in the desert, lives
in the ground, but comes to the surface to attack. You can just defeat
it with a couple hits from your sword.

Like Like
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, M, R, B, A
Description: This moving sponge-like creature is really
annoying, especially when it swallows you whole! If you have your
shield equipped when it swallows you, it'll take it from you! You can
get it back by defeating the Like Like, though!

Mad Bomber
Effective Weapons/Items: S, R, A
Description: This enemy is only found inside the outside
walls of Kanalet Castle. They pop out of a hole, then throw a bomb at
you, which quickly detonates, then retreat into the hole. They then
reappear in a different hole and repeat the same process. Hit them when
they pop their heads out of the hole before they throw their bombs.

Monkey
Effective Weapons/Items: N/A

another long-range weapon until it's defeated.

King Moblin
Effective Weapons/Items: S
Description: This large Moblin living in a cave east of the
Goponga Swamp is definitely the king of Moblins just by its size! It
shoots arrows at you, then dashes straight towards you. Move out of the
way and let it crash into the wall, then hit it with your sword while
it's dazed. Repeat that process until it's defeated.

Knight

8. Boss Strategies

Legend

S = Sword
M = Magic Powder
H = Hookshot
R = Magic Rod
P = Power Bracelet
B = Bomb
A = Arrows

Moldorm
Effective Weapons/Items: S
Battle Strategies: The giant Moldorm is the boss of the Tail
Cave. It's only weakness is the tip of its tail. Get behind it, and
then hit its tail; that'll cause it to get an extra boost of speed for
a moment. After it slows down again, hit its tail again. Keep attacking
its tail until you win.

Genie
Effective Weapons/Items: S, P, B
Battle Strategies: This genie is the boss of the Bottle
Grotto. It hides inside of its protective bottle so it can't be hurt,
but there's a way to hurt it while it's inside. When the bottle bounces
towards you, hit it with your sword, then pick it up and throw it at
the wall with the Power Bracelet. That'll make the genie come out and
throw fireballs at you. After he retreats to his bottle, pick up and
throw the bottle at the wall again. Do that 3 times total to make the
bottle break and the genie will have to fight you! Hit the genie with
your sword, then it'll spin around and then shoot a fireball at you.
Then, hit it again. Keep doing that until it's defeated.

Slime Eye
Effective Weapons/Items: S
Battle Strategies: When you enter this boss's room, you won't
see it. After it taunts you, ram the wall with the Pegasus Boots to
make the boss of the Key Cavern fall to the ground. When it does,
repeatedly hit it with your sword until you see it splitting into 2 and
there's just a small thread holding them together. Then, ram that spot
with the Pegasus Boots and the sword and it'll split into 2 enemies! To
beat them, hit them with your sword and use Roc's Feather to jump in
the air when they come crashing to the ground after you hit them. Keep
doing that until they're both defeated.

Angler Fish
Effective Weapons/Items: S, B, A
Battle Strategies: This giant fish is the boss of the
Angler's Tunnel. Its weakness is a glowing tentacle above its head. To
beat this fish, hit the tentacle repeatedly with your sword while the
fish moves up and down. If you're not quick enough, the Angler will
dash towards you to attack. Then, continue hitting the tentacle until
it's defeated.

Slime Eel
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H
Battle Strategies: When you enter this boss's chamber inside
the Catfish's Maw, a giant pit opens up in the middle of the room. Its
tail pops out and rotates around in a circle, then 4 holes in the walls
appear. To beat this creature, wait until you see the eel's head pop
out of one of the 4 holes, then when it opens its mouth, shoot the
Hookshot into it while trying to avoid the spiked tail. After you pull
the eel out of the hole, hit the flashing heart behind its head a few
times with your sword. Watch out because there is also a fake eel and
if you pull it out, it'll explode! Keep pulling out and attacking the
real eel until it's defeated.

Façade
Effective Weapons/Items: B
Battle Strategies: This giant face in the floor is the boss
of the Face Shrine dungeon. When you first enter this room, it'll make
Flying Tiles come out of the ground and fly after you, then it'll make
the 4 pots fly towards you. After you evade all those flying objects,
plant a bomb on the face of Façade. After it explodes, Façade will
disappear, then reappear again. Repeat the last step around 3 or 4 more
times to defeat it.

Evil Eagle
Effective Weapons/Items: S, H, B, A
Battle Strategies: This giant eagle that flies around atop
the Eagle's Tower is the boss of Level 7. After it first takes off and
it flies onscreen again, hit its beak with the Hookshot as it flies by.
When it flies by 2 more times, hit it both times. Then, it'll stop and
start to shoot feathers and make strong wind gusts come towards you.
Use the Mirror Shield to keep the wind gusts from blowing you off the
tower as easily and to block the feathers shot at you. Then, hit it
again with the Hookshot when it flies by overhead. Continue to hit its
beak with the Hookshot until it's defeated.

Hot Head
Effective Weapons/Items: R
Battle Strategies: This fiery boss is the guardian of the
Thunder Drum deep inside the Turtle Rock dungeon. It jumps in and out
of the lava and surprisingly doesn't actually attack you! The only
weapon that can cause harm to it is the Magic Rod, even though it
shoots fire! When Hot Head comes out of the lava, shoot it as many
times as you can with the Magic Rod. Make sure to ambush it with lots
of hits when it is above the lava because when it dives back in, it
recovers and you'll have to start over. Continue to use the Magic Rod
until you eventually put out its flames and beat it!

The 6 Nightmare Shadows
Effective Weapons/Items: S, M, R, B, A
Battle Strategies: The 6 Shadows deep inside the Wind Fish's
Egg are the final bosses of the game. There are obviously 6 of them,
and I'll provide separate strategies on beating each one below:

Giant Gel
Effective Weapons/Items: M
Battle Strategies: This Giant Gel is the first of the 6
Shadows, but not the absolute easiest (Lanmola's Shadow is!). When it
appears, it'll make a small hop forward. Go up to it and sprinkle Magic
Powder on it to hurt it. Then, back up and it'll take another small
hop. Sprinkle more Magic Powder on it to cause damage. Do this one more
time to beat the Giant Gel and the shadow will become Agahnim's Shadow!

Agahnim's Shadow
Effective Weapons/Items: S
Battle Strategies: The shadow of Agahnim attacks just the
same as the real one from Zelda 3 (A Link to the Past). When he casts a
spell and a flashing ball comes towards you, hit it with your sword
back towards Agahnim to hurt him. When he moves to another area of the
room, do the same thing. Watch out, though, because if he casts a spell
and a bunch of small shots together come towards you, they'll hurt you
even though you hit them with your sword! Keep hitting the flashing
balls at him a few more times until he's defeated.

Shadow of Moldorm
Effective Weapons/Items: S
Battle Strategies: This shadow is exactly like the original
Moldorm boss you fought back in the Tail Cave! Defeat this one the same
way as the original: hit its tail and watch out when it moves quickly
after you hit it. Keep hitting it a bunch of times until you defeat it.

Ganon's Shadow
Effective Weapons/Items: S
Battle Strategies: The shadow of Ganon from A Link to the
Past is back as one of the final nightmares. To beat this
reincarnation, use the Pegasus Boots to dash into Ganon and stab it
with your sword. Keep ramming it while watching out when he calls a
bunch of bats to attack until you beat him!

Shadow of Lanmola
Effective Weapons/Items: R
Battle Strategies: This just HAS to be the easiest of the
shadows! When it appears, just hit it once with your Magic Rod to
defeat it!

Dethl
Effective Weapons/Items: A
Battle Strategies: This is the last and hardest of the 6
Shadows. It has 2 long tentacles that circle around its center area.
Jump over the tentacles while trying to stay in front of Dethl's middle
area and wait until it opens its eye. Then, shoot a bunch of arrows at
its eye while avoiding the tentacles until the eye closes. When it
opens again, shoot more arrows into it. After you've successfully shot
about 20 arrows into its eye, Dethl will be defeated and you win the
game! Another quicker way to defeat Dethl is possible only if you have
the Boomerang. When it opens its eye, throw the Boomerang right into it
for an instant defeat!

Giant Hardhat Beetle (boss of Color Dungeon)
Effective Weapons/Items: S
Battle Strategies: This giant version of the Hardhat Beetle
isn't too tough for the boss of the new Color Dungeon. When you start
the fight, its helmet is blue and each time you hit it with your sword,
it'll change colors. Keep hitting it with your sword until it turns
red, and then hit it again to beat it! Watch out when it attacks, and
be quick when you attack or it'll change back to the blue color again.

14. Secrets

The Money Saving Trick

To save LOTS of your rupees when you go and buy some of the
expensive items like the Shovel or Bow, you must follow the following
steps. You also have to have at least the amount of rupees that item is
though. First, take the item from the shelf and go to pay for it. After
you buy it and the rupees start deducting, QUICKLY press A, B, Start,
and Select simultaneously to get a chance to save and quit. Do that,
then when you come back to the game, you'll have the item and most of
the rupees!

Making and Shooting Exploding Arrows

When you have the Bombs and Arrows in your inventory, assign
the Bombs to one button and the Bow and Arrows to the other. Then,
press both buttons simultaneously and you'll shoot an arrow with a bomb
on it! It'll explode on impact with anything!

Stealing from the Shop

If you want a really expensive item, but don't want to pay
for it, you can steal it from the shop. The one problem to stealing is
if you ever re-enter the shop, the shopkeeper will automatically kill
you! Also, everyone in the game will call you THIEF for the rest of the
game. To steal, take the item you want, then run all the way around the
right side of the shopkeeper, and then quickly exit the shop with the
item. You should make it while the shopkeeper is still looking the
other way. I advise that you only do this trick when you're getting the
Bow because you should already have bough Bombs and the Shovel earlier
in the game and you won't need anything important from the shop after
the Bow.
