===================================================== This is an FAQ/Walkthru for the game, The Legend Of Zelda:Link's Awakening for Game Boy. It will work for the B&W and Color(DX) versions. It is written and copyrighted by Banjo(me). The latest version of this guide can always be found on www.gamefaqs.com. This is my very first plain text format FAQ, so don't run away from it just because it's not perfect, and because it's slightly different from other FAQs. Oh yeah, and my e-mail is: scottmvii@hotmail.com =====================================================

Section 1: How To Use This Guide First of all, I'm not done with all the sections in the Table Of Contents yet. I just put it all there so I wouldn't forget to include it. Second of all, I will ignore e-mails telling me I have a typo, so all you commies out there can just forget about it. Also, here is an FAQ section I've had sent to me in the past, and it really ticks me off, so don't send it:
Q:I found a typo you idiot 1st grader. (Banjo's Note:These exact words have been sent to me before) A:No one cares you communist scum.
This is a sample map of the Moblins lair, as it will appear in the guide:
NOTE: The actual thing in the walkthrough may not be exactly the same. Read the part right before the Tail Cave map to learn how to read the more complicated maps. ===================================================== Moblin's Lair Boss: Master Moblin
Map:
O-2-3 | 1
1.Defeat the Moblin here to advance to the next room.
===================================================== 2.BOSS: Master Moblin Jump over all of his arrows with Roc's feather. When he gets ready to charge, dodge him and hit him while he's still stunned. Repeat several times to win. Difficulty: * =====================================================
3.Free BowWow. He will follow you until you get the Conch Horn.(in Bottle Grotto) ===================================================== Here's an explaination of the map: The O is a room with nothing special in it. In this case, the only O room on the map happens to be a room full of Moblins. The numbers are also rooms, and they correspond to the numbers below the map that tell you what to do in that room. The area surrounded by these: ==== is the boss of that area,(in my example, number 2, the Master moblin) and listed in that area are his name, strategy(s) for beating him/her/it, and a difficulty rating on a five-star scale. The | and - are pathways connecting rooms.
1.2 How To Find The Info You Need Use the Table Of Contents. I know it seems stupid to to make a whole section just to say this, but I once took over maintanence of an FAQ for a week, and got about 15 e-mails a day because someone couldn't find the last Jiggy in Freezeezy Peak, and they couldn't find that section in the guide. ALL THEY HAD TO DO IS READ THE TABLE OF CONTENTS AND FIND THE SECTION CALLED FREEZEEZY PEAK!! It took 3 e-mails to get them to realize this. No, really, I'm serious.
Sword: Find it along the Toronbo Shores. Your primary weapon Level 1: This is the first sword you get Level 2: Collect lots of those Secret Seashells to get it. Twice as powerful.
Shield: Given to you by Tarin, bought at the Mabe Village shop, won at the Trendy Game. Level 1: A normal shield Level 2: Not yet found.
Power Bracelet: Found in Bottle Grotto. Lets you pick up pots and stones. Level 1: See above. Level 2: In Face Shrine. Lets you pick up those elephant blocks.
Magic Powder: Give the Sleepy Mushroom to the Witch so she can make it. Let's you light torches, summon the Mad Batter, and beat the Color Dungeon. (DX Version only)
Sleepy Mushroom: Found in the Mysterious Woods. See above to learn what to do with it.
Roc's Feather: Allows you to jump up to 2 blocks away.
Hook Shot: Pull yourself to far-off rocks and other things.(if you can latch on to it)
Shovel: Dig in many places to find goos things.
Bow: Two words: EXPENSIVE and useful. In other words, not quite worth the price, but nescesary. I'll give you 1 geuss at what it does.
Bomb: If you can't figure this one out, I suggest completing pre-school before playing an RPG.
Ocarina: A magical instrument that you can learn songs for. All the songs are useful, and 2 out of the three are vital to your success.
Pegasus Boots: Run fast, to do a dash attack.
Boomerang: A "hidden" weapon. You can only get it if you have the Magnifying Glass. Trade the Shovel for it.
Flippers: Automatically equipped when you find them. In deep water, press A to swim fast, and B to dive.
Secret Medicine: Buy it at Crazy Tracy's. It will completely restore you life meter if you die, and the death won't count.
2.2 Upgrades Mad Batter: You will find this screwball 3 times in the game. Sprinkle Magic powder in any well you see that has to little wells next to it. He will allow you to carry more stuff. I'm too lazy to list where he is, and I would just make you lazy if I told you where to find him, so find him/it/her on your own!
2.3 Secret Seashells I will list the Secret Shells as I get them. Here's the list so far:
1.In Mabe Village, cut down all of the square of bushes one screen south of the shop.
2.In Tail Cave, find a wall that looks cracked, then bomb it. A treasure chest inside has a shell. The shopkeeper will not sell bombs until you buy the shovel.(talk about marketing strategies!) =========================================================================
Section 3: Walkthru I started a new game so I can write the walkthru as I play, and not from memory. Also, I will list items in an area that you can get presently, not later. So, since you can get the Boomerang at Toronbo Shores later, I will list it later. Here it is:
Items: Sword Shield Magic Powder (optional, at the time)
You start in Tarin and Marin's house. As soon as you wake up, talk to Tarin to get your shield. Head left two screens and down two screens to get to Toronbo Shores. There, you can find your sword by pushing the spiny things out of the way with your shield. Once you find it, you can go back to Mabe Village. There, go fishing or play the Trendy Game if you wish, and then head to the Mysterious Woods. Using a simple trick listed in the Tricks Of The Trade section, you can get the Shovel, Bombs, and Bow & Arrows now. Now is also a good time to get the secret shell and peice of heart here. Also, pick up some Magic Powder and the Yoshi Doll at the Trendy Game.
You can get Magic Powder here, but don't bother. Just pick some up at the Trendy Game before coming here. When you find the screen with a raccoon on it, sprinkle Magic Powder on him to reveal him as Tarin and unscramble Mysterious Woods. Now, go up a screen to get the Tail Key in a treasure chest. If you can't find the chest, seek mental help now. Now, go back to Mabe Village.
Entering the first dungeon is quite easy. Just search around Toronbo Shores once you get the Tail Key. Walk up to the keyhole and the entrance will open for you. The walkthru for this dungeon is coming soon. Also, I will list the room that the compass is in as a C, the map room as an M, and the room with the Nightmare's key as an N. The room with the main treasure will be T. Also, if the object of a room is to hit a switch, open a treasure chest in plain sight, or destroy all of the enemies in that room, I won't give that room a number. Figure it out on your own. There is a mini-boss for each dungeon. They\ are marked with a B. The main boss is marked with a BB. Also, the E is the room where you entered the dungeon.
Map: O | 3-2-O BB | | T O N-O O O | | | | | | O O-O-O-O-O-B | | 4 O-O-M | C-1-E
1.Push both things in the pit with your shield or sword to win a key.
2.I know, you should be able to figure it out on yuor own, but I'll insult your intelligence and tell you anyway. Push the block near the upper left to complete the patern.
3.You can make stairs appear in this room. They lead to number four.
Strategy: Hit it with 2 charged sword blasts, or a bunch of nowmal ones. Be careful not to get pushed off. Difficulty: * *
Prize: Full Moon Cello, One (1) heart Container ========================================================================= 3.4 Link Saves The Day!(and BowWow)
Go to the Mysterious Forest, and work your way northeast.(NE) Soon, you'll come along a Piece Of Heart. Now, go north, by using Roc's Feather to jump over the holes. Now, go in the cave that you will come upon. There are many Moblins in here. Just kill them.
Strategy: Jump over his arrows with Roc's Feather, and dodge him when he charges and hit him while he's stunned. Repeat as needed. Difficulty:* Prize: BowWow ========================================================================= Once you save BowWow, take him back to Madame MeowMeow.
Ribbon: Give the Yoshi Doll to the Quadruplet's Mother.
Dog Food: Give the Ribbon to the BowWow in the doghouse adjacent to Madame MeowMeow's House.
Bananas: Give the Dog Food to Sale in the house at Toronbo Shores.
Stick: Give the Bananas to Kiki The Monkey. Pick up the stick his pals leave behind after building the bridge.
Honeycomb: If you find Tarin hitting at a tree, give him the Stick. Pick up the Bee's Nest left behind when he retreats.
Pineapple: Give the Honeycomb to the Bear Chef in the Animal Village.
Hibiscus: Give the Pineapple to the Quadruplet's Father in the Tal Tal Mountains.
Letter: Give the Hibiscus to someone in the Animal Village who has already asked you for it.
Broom: Give the Letter to Weird Mr. Write.
Hook: Give the Broom to Grandma Ulrira. She will be in a randow location. Either outside a house in Animal Village, or outside her house in Mabe Village.
Necklace: Dive under the bridge in Martha's Bay and use Roc's Feather to get onto the boat and talk to the fisherman.
Scale: Give the necklace to the Mermaid.
Magnifying Glass: Use the Hookshot to get to the Mermaid Statue and put the Scale on it. The rest is pretty straightforward.
Section 5: Tricks Of The Trade I will give each trick a five-star rating in usefullness and/or fun.
Look Out...There's a place in the Angler's Cave where if you make a seemingly immpossible jump,(NOT really immpossible) and use all your keys behind it, you'll need the flippers to get the last key, but you'll need the last key to get the flippers. I found this out the hard way. I saved too, and had to erase my game. * * * * *
When Marin follows you, if you break pots, she yells at you. Also, she hates it when you beat on chickens. And she really digs it when you use the shovel!! Also, if you take her to the Trendy Game, she'll take the controls (you still have to pay for her) and pick up Mr. Trendy!! * * * * *
To make a bomb arrow, equip the bombs and the arrows, and press the buttons simultaneously. You need this to get all the heart container peices. * * * * *
Run with the Pegasus Boots, then use Roc's Feather to jump extra far! * * * * *
Section 6: heart Container Peices I will be making a list of the heart container pieces as I get them.
1.Mabe Village. Once you get your sword, find the place west of Madame MeowMeow's house with a thing that looks like a well. Cut down the bush above it and jump in!
Nintendo Copyrighted the game, and all characters and names in it.
I,(Banjo) copyrighted this guide.
Credits: Shigeru Miyamoto:For creating Zelda, and making Zelda games. Nintendo:For publishing this game, and all that other stuff. Me:I wrote this....duh.
Scetion 9: DX Version Bonuses Here I will list all the new stuff in the DX version.
9.1 New Stuff
New Text: Genie says more stuff, etc. Camera Shop: See 9.2 Color Dungeon: See 9.3 Color: Duh...geuss what it means. Well, the graphics now almost equal the SNES game.(I am now working on an FAQ for the SNES version, and I should have version 0.1 of it out fairly soon.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------
9.2 Camera Shop There is a camera shop one east of the Moblin's Cave. Once the guy there takes your picture, he'll pop up at certain locations and take your picture to add to your album. Before any of these pictures(except 1) will work, you have to have picture number 1 taken first.
1. Go to the camera shop and talk to the guy there. He will take your picture. Alternate Picture 1: Say no to EVERYTHING (the key word here) the camera shop owner says to get a different picture.
2.Peek in Grandpa Ulrira's window.
3.With Marin following you, go through the well in Mabe Village.
4.While Marin is folowing you, look around the cliffs at Toronbo Shores until the camera guy (photographer) comes.
5.Before you open the gate to Canalet Castle, walk up to it.
6.Walk up and down every bridge in the Tal Tal Mountains until the photographer comes.
9.3 Color Dungeon There is a new dungeon in the DX version, and I'll let you figure out how to get in on your own. Just go to the library when you get the Pegasus boots, and run into the north bookshelf. Read the book to learn how to get in.(HINT: the secret entrance is in the five gravestones in the southeast (SE) corner of the graveyard.)
