    Raven Software Interview, Part 3

Gamesurge: What about hostage AI's do they run away from you? toward you? just stand there?

Kenn: You have to "use" them to tell them to run... Generally they cower in fear of the men with guns. =) They talk to you and give you information as well...

Gamesurge: Will there be a third person mode? Kenn: Third-Person mode won't be supported...

Gamesurge: What about the weapons? I know you said 12 real-world but can you go in detail?

Kenn: A variety of pistols, shotguns, automatic weapons...a few prototype weapons as well...very high tech. Several items, too, like C4 explosives and flash grenades will be in there as well.

Gamesurge: But no "rocket launcher" types right? Kenn: There's a rocket launcher, yes.

Gamesurge: Will there be a 32 bit color mode? Kenn: Yes. Detail texturing, damage texturing, specular highlighting as well...

Gamesurge: About the rocket launcher - doesn't it seem "unreal" to have a guy with a rocket launcher running around? Unreal as in the not possible not the game BTW =)

Kenn: If you use it in an enclosed area, you will die horribly... The Rocket Launcher has its uses, but you can't run around in hallways with it or you will kill yourself. The military uses Rocket Launchers...why can't our mercenary? =)

Gamesurge: What about armor? It's kinda funny to have a guy survive a rocket blast becuase of 200 armor.

Kenn: You won't survive a rocket blast... Yes, there is armor... It's more to protect you from small arms fire and projectiles, not explosives.

Gamesurge: What about flash-bangs and such?

    Kenn: Flash-Bangs?

    Gamesurge: Flash-bang grenades... Read tom clansy's rainbow 6 =)

Kenn: I'm not a fan of his writing...

Gamesurge: Basically you throw 'em in a room and they explode really loudly so that people loose sense for a few minutes or seconds.

Kenn: Do they blind enemies? Is that what they do?

Gamesurge: They are blind, deaf, etc.

    Kenn: Yes...we have those...stun grenades

    Gamesurge: Great for rescuing hostages.

    Kenn: Blind and deaf...yes...

Kenn: And yes...good for hostage situations.

Gamesurge: What about server options? Will the server have a lot of options to tweak the game?

Kenn: Yes...more than in any FPS game I've ever seen.

Gamesurge: Will there be co-op mode?

    Kenn: No

Gamesurge: No team stuff either I suppose...

    Kenn: Team deathmatch = yes

    Kenn: CTF = Yes

Gamesurge: I mean team like Rogue Spear where you have to use your brains to kill the other team or get past them.

Kenn: Sounds like team deathmatch to me... =)

Kenn: But not like in Rogue Spear.

Gamesurge: In my opinion - team death match is everyone has the same HP etc. and the one with most frags wins. What I meant by team is like each person has strengh/weakness that you have to use together to win.

Kenn: Team Deathmatch in SoF is you and your friends team up in multiplayer and each kill you get scores a point for your team...the team with the most points, wins...

    Kenn: Ah...

    Kenn: I see

    Kenn: I don't believe so...

    Kenn: no

    Kenn: Sounds cool, though. =)

Gamesurge: Maybe someting to concider for expansion pack?

Gamesurge: I better get credit 8)

Kenn: Definitely... I'm keeping a list of ideas for that already... =)

    Kenn: Heh

Gamesurge: One last question - lets say some of our viewers want to work for Raven Software, can you tell me the requirements as in location, age, etc.?

Kenn: Information on hiring for Raven can be found at http://www.ravensoft.com/company_jobs.shtml

Gamesurge: Ok that wraps it up. Thanks a lot for taking some time out to do this interview!

Kenn: Sure, no problem! For more info on about SoF, visit http://www.ravensoft.com/sof.shtml
