    The Tycoons

    by MystikaL

Tycoon, a wealthy and powerful business person. Whether it is a Railroad Tycoon, Roller coaster Tycoon, or Wall Street Tycoon, the developers of the Tycoon series of games have always been on top, proving to be Tycoons themselves. The games these developers have created have been 2nd to no one.

I myself have Railroad Tycoon 2, Roller coaster Tycoon, and plan on purchasing Wall Street Tycoon this Christmas season. So is the Tycoon series better than the Sim Series of games? The answer is yes. Not only does the series offer every last detail and setting that the real thing and Sim series both offer, but it offers much more. The games get more into depth in what they are doing, far more than Maxis offers.

Has the series changed the gaming industry? Yes. More and more adults are buying games, many which fall into the category of Sim/RTS and sports. My cousin, who is 28 years old plays many games like Myth 2, NFL 2k for the Dreamcast, Resident Evil, Command & Conquer, and just about every single other game he can get his hands on. He doesn't have the internet. That right there proves you can be a gamer without the internet.

A lot of people just buy games for the multiplayer, but single player is what makes most games. He has over 6 console systems, 2 PC's, and over a total of 200 games and 500 demos. That's a lot of game time. He enjoys mostly Sports and RTS/SIM games though, along with my other cousins who are also adults. Kids tend to lean towards kill everything games on consoles like Nintendo 64, Playstation, and Dreamcast, though not all do. The main reason they do is because of marketing hype, just like adults do towards the Tycoon series. It appeals more to their taste mainly because their learning or "Thinking" while still having lots of fun. It also tends to relieve stress, which most kids don't have much of.

As the tycoon series improves and goes on, it will keep changing the industry. Many of these games have been the best sellers, including Roller Coaster Tycoon and Railroad Tycoon 2.
