Alive and Kicking, now just need a soul By: HonestJon Oh yeah! This is my first time... and not that kind of first time-just in case you got any ideas. Well, first of all, I have to thank you all for reading my crap. I can assure you the politeness will fade away faster than Dreamcast once PSX 2 comes out. I can also assure you that I don't take sides. Not at all. Maybe a bit opinionated and favoring the guys, but nonetheless... about as fair as this world (unfair at best?). Now, drum roll plz... Anyway, I am not crazy about video games personally. Not anymore. I don't know why, but the trill is kind of gone for good. Maybe I played too much, maybe I didn't play enough. But the bottom line is that even if I have time I just won't go turn on my Playstation and buzz around with a trusty NSX in Gran Tourismo or disassemble some bad ass robots with a volcan cannon in Omega Boost or just unload a healthy amount of lead into some mineral deficient zombies in RE2. I've had enough. You see, there are just only so many races you can win, so many bad guys you can blow up, and so many worlds you can save before things start to get a little lame. Lame is an understatement. I don't believe in swearing but I really have to say that video games are using the same concept over and over and over too many fucking times. God save the game. Ever since the days of Nintendo, the mainstream ideas had always been the same. You have three choices: blow things up, burn up some rubber, or just be the hero and save the day. Sports games don't count for obvious reasons. Graphics and game play all had gone a long way since those early days, but the ideas had not. So, it's like the Chinese saying, "change the taste but not the medicine"-it won't save your ailing butt. I am not saying the video games industry is going down or anything (there's always truck loads of peeps who have too much free time). In fact the industry is doing better than ever, with new technology and designs popping up faster than a typical teenage boy, and businesses are booming (not for Saga though =). New systems from Sony and Nintendo are in development with promise of some very exciting features. Nowadays, the video game industry is very much alive and kicking, just sans a soul. What good is it? Who knows? As long as the blood keeps pumping and tire keeps on burning, someone will go for it. Long live da game. You got a problem with what I write? Keep it to yourself.
