INTRODUCTION ------------ This is the very first FAQ I have written and since I pretty much mastered red and blue, I decided to write about the up-and-coming yellow version. You will notice that there isn't very much to this FAQ yet, but as the game draws nearer to being released, there will be much more to the FAQ, and when I get my hands on a copy (which will probably be right after the release), I will complete the FAQ. Pokémon Yellow WILL BE Game Boy Color enhanced!!
Please e-mail me with any comments or suggestions you have about this FAQ and I will add them in.
I finally got the chance to play it!! It is a definite buy. I have already reserved my copy of it.
REVISION HISTORY ---------------- Version:
1.3-Added some basic info. 1.2-Added some stuff to the Best Team Section and upped walkthrough. 1.1-Upped walkthrough, revised my team and added PIKACHU!!! Section. Also added some poor artwork for the logo. 1.0-Really dumb, poorly written FAQ without much good info.
ABOUT THE GAME -------------- Pokémon Yellow is based on the cartoon. You play as Ash and the Pokémon you start off with Pikachu, a cute yellow rodent. Jesse and James of Team Rocket are in this [?] as are their Pokémon Koffing, Weezing, Ekans, Arbok, and Meowth. Basically, the objective of the game is to travel around the "world" collecting creatures called Pokémon. Each one has different powers. Aided by Pikachu, you travel facing trainers as you go and GYM leaders to earn badges to become a Pokémon Master. You also run into your rival, Gary, several times throughout the game. He always seems to be one step ahead of you, though. By the way, Gary starts with an Eevee.
Every Pokémon from red and blue has been redrawn and looks much better. I have heard that not all 151 are in the game, though.
POKEMON IN THE GAME ------------------- Here are the ones that are not in the game: Weedle (lots of bug catchers have them) Kakuna (lots of bug catchers have them) Beedrill (a bug catcher to the west of Cerulean City has two of them) Electabuzz (?) Magmar (?) Raichu (Pikachu refuses the Thunder Stone! And, there are no wild ones.) Koffing (no nest on map, James has one) Weezing (no nest on map, James eventually gets one) Ekans (no nest on map, Jesse has one) Arbok (no nest on map, Jesse eventually gets one) Meowth (no nest on map, He's just kinda there with Team Rocket) Persian (no nest on map, Giovanni has one) Jynx (no idea. The Bulbasaur house replaces original place for trade. Lorelei of the Elite Four has one.)
PIKACHU!!! ---------- He learns new moves this go around. They are: -Thundershock -Growl -Tail Whip -Thunder Wave -Quick Attack -Thunderbolt -Swift -Slam -Agility -Thunder -Light Screen

BEST TEAM --------- Here is the team that I had the most luck with in red and blue. You'll notice that I put their moves as well. This tells exactly how well it can do against other Pokémon. I welcome your teams that you like to use. Just e-mail me your team and if it's a good one, I'll post them on the FAQ. Let me know what moves they have, as that will help me see why you consider it good.
1) [Raichu, Jotleon] Pikachu-What can I say? It has a [remotely] high special and is very quick. Moves: Thunder-beats water, flying Thunderbolt-beats water, flying Slam-beats nothing (taught) Reflect-aids in his low defense 2) Dragonite-Easily one of the most powerful Pokémon in the game. Very high attack and special. Moves: (taught) Ice Beam-beats flying, ground, rock, grass, dragon (taught) Thunderbolt-beats flying, water (taught) Body Slam-beats nothing (taught) Fire Blast-beats grass, ice 3) Exeggutor-I evolved my Exeggcute at level 25 so that I could have a very powerful Exeggutor. This proved to be effective. Very high special with good attack and defense. Moves: (taught) Egg Bomb-beats nothing (taught) Mega Drain-beats water, ground, rock (taught) Psychic-beats poison, fighting (taught) Explosion-beats nothing 4) Rydon-Most powerful rock IMHO. Very high attack and defense. Moves: (taught) Earthquake-beats poison, rock, electric, fire (taught) Rock Slide-beats fire, flying (taught) Mega Kick-beats nothing Take Down-beats nothing 5) Gengar-Gotta love that ghost! Very high special. Very little affects it badly. Moves: (taught) Thunder-beats flying, water Confuse Ray-VERY helpful. Affects anything, anytime. Hypnosis-works best on pokémon weak against psychic Dream Eater-affects poison, fighting 6) Vaporeon-Low attack, special, and speed, but that's okay. Lots of HP and a high special help. Moves: Hydro Pump-beats fire, ground, rock Acid Armor-helpful->raises evade and defense (taught) Bubblebeam-beats fire, ground, rock (taught) Blizzard-beats dragon, ground, rock, flying, grass Lots of success with this team!!
The best Pokémon in the game are (in my own opinion?found the most success with these):
#10: Jynx-Very underrated. Since it is Psychic/Ice, its only weaknesses are Fire, Bug, and Fighting. It is also very quick with a very high special. I taught mine Psychic and with Blizzard, it is unstoppable.
#9: Ninetails-Surprised? So was I when I first used it. It is extremely quick with a high special. I consider this to be the best Fire around. Besides, Confuse Ray, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, and Body Slam are very helpful. (hah, you thought Charizard was the best)
#8: Electrode-Teach it Thunder/Thunderbolt to accommodate its high special. Since it is so fast, it almost always attacks first. Also, if you get in trouble, Explosion comes in handy. (hah, surprised huh?)
#7: Starmie-Water/Psychic. Very quick with a high special(sounds familiar). Probably the best Water around. Because of the part Psychic, it can learn Psychic, part Water yields Blizzard, and it can learn Thunder for some reason. I like this one. (thought of Blastiose, huh)
#6: Jolteon-The best Electric. Weak against only Ground. With a wide variety of moves (Double Kick, Pin Missile, Thunder) it can defeat a lot. Very fast with a high special.
#5: Exeggutor-The fact that it is part Psychic boosts this one's special very high. The only drawback is that it is slow. Probably the best Grass (yes, even better than Venusaur).
#4: Rydon-Definitely the most powerful Ground/Rock. It has a lot of HP, a high attack/defense, and very little affects it. My 2nd favorite Pokémon is this one.
#3: Gengar-Since very little even remotely effects it, it's a good one to use. Also has the ability to learn a wide variety of moves, plus learns the dreaded Confuse Ray.
#2: Dragonite-Extremely powerful. I taught mine a wide variety of moves. It also has a very high special/attack. I have found the most success out of this (besides Mewtwo).
#1: Mewtwo-Big surprise. Very high special, fast, good defense/attack, and the ability to learn almost any move make this one the best.
WALKTHROUGH ----------- Here's what I know so far:
Pallet Town ----------- Just like red and blue, you walk out into the grassy area north of Pallet Town. Again, Professor Oak stops you but instead of you going directly back to his lab, a Pikachu attacks you. Professor Oak simply throws a Poké-ball and catches it. After you go back into the lab, you see a Poké-ball sitting on a table. Professor Oak tells you to take it, and when you try to, Gary runs in and snatches it. It is an Eevee. So, Professor Oak gives you the Pikachu instead. Gary challenges you as well. If you lose, shame on you. If you win, Pikachu levels up.
BATTLE: Gary Pokémon: Eevee, Lv. 5 Prize: $175 Just keep using Thundershock. This battle is ridiculously easy.
Route One (North of Pallet Town) --------- Items: Potion Pokémon: Pidgey, Ratatta Trainers: None
Just a place to level up. Don't worry about catching those Pokémon yet, since you don't have any PokéBalls anyway. I suggest leveling up Pikachu to 12 or so. Yes, 12. If you can't be patient enough to take up about 10 extra precious minutes to level up, then stop, take the game out, and sell it right now.
Route 22 (West of Route 1) -------- Items: None Pokemon: Spearow, Nidoran(m.), Nidoran(f.), Mankey Trainers: Gary
You'll want to catch a Mankey here and train it until it learns Low Kick. That will come in handy when fighting Brock. BATTLE: Gary Pokémon: Spearow Lv.9 Eevee Lv. 8 Prize: $(I'll have to get back with you on that one) Use Pikachu's Thundershock on Spearow and Mankey's Low Kick on Eevee.
-----------------That's all for now, more to come later----------------
STRENGHTS/WEAKNESSES --------------------

GARY ---- This section will be about Gary (duh), basically, where you find him, his Pokémon, and the prize for beating him.
RELEASE INFORMATION ------------------- As far as I know, this game will be released in America on October 19th. (hopefully) ? We'll keep our fingers crossed.
SECRET STUFF ------------ Missingno. isn't there, Mew is somewhere. If anyone finds out, please let me know where.
