will give you info on Evolutions, how to find rare Pokemon, HMs, TMs, Items
and tips. Please note, there is no walkthrough here and there are no plans by
me to make one. But, hopefully, this coupled with a good walkthrough will be

HOW TO GET MEW
--------------

First, trade with your friends so that you get a Pokemon with Cut, Surf, and
Strength. Bypass getting the Vermilion and Celadon Badges and DO NOT get the
CUT HM from the captain of the S.S. Anne. After Cerulean City, go straight to
Fuchsia City and beat Koga. Go get the SURF HM from the house in the Safari
Zone. Go back to Vermilion City. Surf over to the Gym and beat Surge. Go to
Celadon City and cut through the tree blocking the way to Gym (using the
traded Pokemon). Beat Erika so you can use Strength. Now, go to where the
S.S. Anne is docked. Surf over to the right and get on the dock. Use Strength
on the truck and reveal a Poke Ball containing Mew!

After you get 150 Pokemon, go to the guy in the Celadon Mansion to get a Mew.

FULL HM AND TM LISTING
---------------------

HM means Hidden Machine. Hidden machines are harder to get than TMs. HMs can
be used many times without losing the HM itself. HM abilities can be used in
both battle and outside. You can use the HM outside after you have got the
badge needed to use it however.

HM01 - Teaches Cut. You get it from the captain on the S.S. Anne after
rubbing his back. (To use this ability outside of battle, you must beat Misty
in Cerulean City).
HM02 - Teaches Fly. You get it from the girl who lives north of the start of
Bicycle Road. (To use this ability outside of battle, you must beat Surge in
Vermilion City).
HM03 - Teaches Surf. You get it from the secret house in the Safari Zone. (To
use this ability outside of battle, you must beat Koga in Fuchsia City).
HM04 - Teaches Strength. You get it after giving the Warden in Fuchsia City
his teeth. (To use this ability outside of battle, you must beat Erika in
Celadon City).
HM05 - Teaches Flash. You get it from Prof. Oak's Aide after getting 10 found
on your 'dex. (To use this ability outside of battle, you must beat Brock in
Pewter City).

TMs are Technical Machines. They teach specfic Pokémon certain abilities. TMs
can be gained in a number of ways, talking to people, finding them in
Pokéballs, and beating Gym Leaders. Some Pokémon can learn a certain TM while
some other Pokémon cannot. It depends mostly on the type of the Pokémon. A
easy example is when you try to use TM11 (Bubble Beam). If you pick your
Squirtle, it should say able. But, if you pick your Charmander, it will say
not able.

The ball item is used to capture wild Pokémon in battle. When you select a
ball in battle, the ball goes from hands to the Pokémon. There is always a
chance you cannot capture it, you can lessen it by weakening the Pokémon to
red or low yellow and/or making it sleep.

Poké Ball - Use this ball to catch wild Pokémon.
Great Ball - Use this ball to catch wild Pokémon. Better capture rate than
Poké Ball.
Ultra Ball - Use this ball to catch wild Pokémon. Better capture rate than
Great Ball.
Master Ball - Use this ball to catch wild Pokémon. 100% capture rate.
Safari Ball - Use this ball to catch Safari Zone Pokémon. Cannot be used
outside of Safari Zone.

The potions are used to recover HP and the revive potions are used to make
fainted Pokémon usable again. Potions can be used can be used in battle and
outside, but the revive potion can only be used outside of battle.

Potion - Recovers some of a Pokémon's HP.
Super Potion - Recovers some of a Pokémon's HP. Recovers more than Potion.
Hyper Potion - Recovers some of a Pokémon's HP. Recovers more than Super
Potion.
Max Potion - Fully recovers all HP of a Pokémon.
Full Restore - Fully recovers all HP and heals all status aliments of a
Pokémon.
Revive - Makes a fainted Pokémon usable in battle again.
Max Revive - Make a fainted Pokémon usable in battle again and fully recovers
that Pokémon's HP.

The heal potions are used to cure status aliments. The status aliments in the
game are paralyze (Pokémon may sometimes cancel their attack), poison
(Pokémon loses HP every battle turn and when moving), burn (like poison with
lowered power and speed), freeze (cannot attack at all), and sleep (like
freeze).

Parlyz Heal - Removes paralyze status from a Pokémon.
Antidote - Removes poison status from a Pokémon.
Burn Heal - Removes burn status from a Pokémon.
Ice Heal - Removes freeze status from a Pokémon.
Awakening - Removes sleep status from a Pokémon.
Full Heal - Removes all status aliments from a Pokémon.

The status enhancers are used to change the stats of Pokémon without
advancing in levels. The status enhancers can only be used so many times on
a single Pokémon before it stops working (with the exception of rare candy).
The X status enhancers change stats during battle, but the change does not
remain after the battle.

Rare Candy - Raises the level of a Pokémon by 1.
HP Up - Raises the HP of a Pokémon.
PP Up - Raises the PP of a Pokémon's attack.
Protein - Raises the attack of a Pokémon.
Iron - Raises the defense of a Pokémon.
Carbos - Raises the speed of a Pokémon.
Calcium - Raises the special of a Pokémon.
X Attack - Raises the attack of a Pokémon during battle.
X Defend - Raises the attack of a Pokémon during battle.
X Speed - Raises the speed of a Pokémon during battle.
X Special - Raises the special of a Pokémon during battle.
X Accuracy - Raises the accuracy of a Pokémon during battle.
Guard Special - Protects a Pokémon from special attack by enemies.
Dire Hit - Increases the chance of a critcal hit.

The following items are of a varied sort. They are used in the game, but they
have no real affect on the storyline. These tiems can help you out in the
game, but are not needed.

Escape Rope - Use the rope to escape from a dungeon.
Repel - Wild Pokémon of lower level than the one in your front line will not
attack.
Super Repel - Wild Pokémon of lower level than the one in your front line
will not attack. Lasts longer than Repel.
Max Repel - Wild Pokémon of lower level than the one in your front line will
not attacl. Lasts longer than Super Repel.
Poké Doll - Use this to escape from battle.
Fire Stone - Use this to evolve Vulpix, Growlithe, and Eevee.
Thunder Stone - Use this to evolve Pikachu, and Eevee.
Water Stone - Use this to evolve Poliwhirl, Shellder, Staryu, and Eevee.
Leaf Stone - Use this to evolve Gloom, Weepinbell, and Exeggcute.
Moon Stone - Use this to evolve Nidorina, Nidorino, Clefairy, and Jigglypuff.
Bike Voucher - Trade this in at Cerulean City bike shop for a bike.
Bike - Travel is made faster with the bike.
Old Rod - Use near water to try to fight Water Pokémon.
Good Rod - Use near water to try to fight Water Pokémon. Better Pokémon than
Old Rod.
Super Rod - Use near water to try to fight Water Pokémon. Better Pokémon than
Good Rod.
Coin Case - This holds Game Corner coins.
Helix Fossil - Give to scientist at Cinnabar Island for a Omanyte.
Dome Fossil - Give to scientist at Cinnabar Island for a Kabuto.
Old Amber - Give to scientist at Cinnabar Island for an Aerodactyl.
Item Finder - Use to find out if a hidden item is nearby.
Exp. All - Shares exp gained with all Pokémon in your usable 6.

The following items are needed to enhance the storyline. If you do not get
these items and use them the right way, you will not be able to continue in
the game.

Oak's Parcel - Give to Professor Oak.
S.S. Ticket - You need this to enter the S.S. Anne.
Sliph Scope - You can identify the ghost Pokémon in Pokémon tower after
getting this.
Poké Flute - Use this to wake up the Snorlax.
Fresh Water - Can be used to regain HP. Give to Saffron City guards to gain
passage.
Soda Pop - Can be used to regain HP. Give to Saffron City guards to gain
passage.
Lemonade - Can be used to regain HP. Give to Saffron City guards to gain
passage.
Secret Key - You need this to gain access to Cinnabar Island gym.

Badges can be considered the most important item. You'll need them to use
certain moves outside of battle and to get. You get Badges by beating Gym
Leaders in various cities.

Boulder Badge - You can use Flash outside of battle. All of your Pokémon's
power increases.
Cascade Badge - You can use Cut outside of battle. Pokémon up to level 30
obey you.
Thunder Badge - You can use Fly outside of battle. All of your Pokémon's
speed increases.
Rainbow Badge - You can use Strength outside of battle. Pokémon up to level
50 obey you.
Soul Badge - You can use Surf outside of battle. All of your Pokémon's
defense increases.
Marsh Badge - Pokémon up to level 70 obey you.
Volcano Badge - All of your Pokémon's special increases.
Earth Badge Pokémon up to level 100 obey you.

TIPS FROM ELVIN FORTUNA
-----------------------

All tips placed in this section are credited to Elvin Fortuna
(elvin@neotown.com).

-If you can trade, try to start with Squirtle, Charmander and Bulbasaur.
Also, as you go along, add a Spearow (stronger than Pidgey). Drowzee (more
defense and attack than Kadabra) and, of course, Pikachu. Play with these 6
and level up accordingly to beat the game easily. Be sure to change your line
up (Squirtle or Bulbasaur for Brock, Pikachu or Bulbasaur for Misty,
Bulbasaur or Lt. Surge, Charmander for Erika, Bulbasaur or Drowzee for Koga,
Drowzee for Sabrina (use Headbutt on a Psychic), Squirtle for Blaine, and
Charmander/Drowzee for Giovanni). Evolve and use best TMs.

-Fire Blast for Charmander with Strength
Sky Attack + Razor Wind for Spearow with Fly
Bubblebeam Squirtle with Surf
Dream Eater + Psychic for Drowzee with Flash
Mega Drain + Solarbeam for Bulbasaur with Cut
Thunderbolt + Thunder for Pikachu

-As long as you level up, change lineups and go through correctly, you should
beat the Elite Four easily. After that, then go for all 150 Pokemon and
replace each type with others.

-Keep fighting the Elite Four. They are the only trainers who you can keep
fighting and get money from. Level up there and fill your money at the same
time.

-Always fight with a balanced team.

I prefer using this combination because, with it, you can beat almost
any Pokemon trainer. Once you get all Pokemon, here is a strong team to use.

Dragonite
Venusaur
Charizard
Blastoise
Mewtwo
Raichu

-Raise Pokemon from the lowest level possible. A Level 22 Nidoran Female
raised from Level 2 is stronger than a Level 22 Nidoran Female caught in the
Safari Zone.

-Poison Pokemon can't be poisoned.

-Zubat/Golbat's Haze attack is a handy move that removes all status ailments
from the enemy and yourself.

-Always leave a traded, young Pokemon (like Mr. Mime) in the daycare from
Cerulean City when you can. When you finish the game, it will be at a good
fighting level.

-I recommend you use stones on a Pokemon after they learn their full set of
moves.

-Pokemon usually learn moves faster when they don't evolve.

-Always keep a normal attack like Swift on a Pokemon for emergencies.

-Ghost Pokemon have the highest evade. Hardly any attacks hit them.

-Pidgeot and Fearow's Mirror Move is very useful. For example, when facing a
Dragonite, and it uses Hyper Beam, use Mirror Move, and you do the same, but
it will be super effective (a dragon attack on a dragon is super effective).

-Experiment with different Pokemon. Don't just go for strong, famous Pokemon
like Mewtwo. Try a Venomoth or Hypno.

-Get a Chansey. Teach it Softboiled (Surf to the Old Man in Celadon City). It
can completely cure OTHER POKEMON in your party without having Chansey out.
This can save you, and gives you an edge against friends in the Colliseum.

-Don't count on one-hit KO moves like Horn Drill and Guillotine. Put your
luck on matching element types for best chances of victory. Look at your
manual for this.

-Use status moves. Keep at least one on a Pokemon. The most effective are
Sleep Powder and Confuse Ray. After hitting the enemy with one of those
attacks, hit them with your best moves.

-Conserve moves. If you hit the enemy with a Swift and the enemy has little
HP left, use a Quick Attack instead of Swift to finish the enemy off.
