Introduction:
Welcome, fellow Pok‚mon masters, to my guide to Pok‚mon! In case you didn't
know, Pok‚mon is pronounced Po-Kay-Mon. Remember, it's not Po-kee-mon, although
Po-ki-mon is fine. It's known as "Pocket Monsters" in Japan, and BOY, IS IT
POPULAR THERE! Anyway, this is a good source of information. From my experience
with the Internet, I know that it's doing almost as well here!

Strategies for Gym Leaders:

Brock:
Pok‚mon: L 12 Geodude, L 14 Onix
Strategies: If you started with a Bulbasaur or Squirtle, these guys are simple.
If not Butterfree will be your best bet. Build it up higher then a Bulbasaur or
Squirtle.
Levels your Pok‚mon should be: 12+ for Bulbasaur/Squirtle, 16+ for any other.

Misty:
Pok‚mon: L 18 Staryu, Level 21 Starmie
Strategies: If you have Bulbasaur, don't worry. If not, use a Pikachu.

for any other.

Lt. Surge:
Pok‚mon: L 21 Voltorb, L 18 Pikachu, L 24 Raichu

Erika:

Levels: 28+ for fire, 35+ for any other.

Sabrina:
Pok‚mon: L 38 Kadabra, L 37 Mr. Mime, L 38 Venomoth, L 43 Alakazam

into Jolteon, this girl's simple.

Blaine:
Pok‚mon: L 42 Growlithe, L 40 Ponyta, L 42 Rapidash, L 47 Arcanine.

many gym leaders and now want to pick him, this might change your mind.
Bulbasaur is DEAD! If you pick Squirtle, USE IT!
Levels: 45+ for water, 55+ for anything else.

??? last Gym Leader:

1-time Pok‚mon
In each game, there are four one-time Pok‚mon. They are Articuno, Zapdos,
Moltres and Mewtwo. You see them before you fight them. If you don't catch it
then, it's lost forever. Too bad for you! Also, in both games there is one two-
time Pok‚mon- Snorlax. One of those five should be the target of the Master
Ball. You want to catch it the old fashioned way? All right, here's how- Lower
their HP, freeze `em, sleep `em or paralyze `em, and capture `em with an Ultra
ball.
How and why to get Articuno: Articuno is the first of the four Legendary
Pok‚mon. It is found in the Seafoam Island Caves. It starts with Peck and Ice
Beam. It learns "Blizzard" at level 51, "Agility" at level 55 and "Mist" at
level 60.
How and why to get Zapdos: Zapdos is found in the Power Plant. It starts with
Thundershock and Drill Peck. It learns Thunder at level 51, Agility at level 55
and Light Screen at level 60.
How and why to get Moltres: Moltres is found on Victory Road. It starts with
Peck and Fire Spin. It learns Leer, Agility and Sky Attack at the same levels
as the others.
How and Why to get Mewtwo: Mewtwo can ONLY be found after you beat the game.
When you do you should go to Route 24. Surf to the cave that was once blocked.
Fight through it until you get to Mewtwo. Mewtwo is extremely hostile. It was
created on Cinnabar Island. It destroyed the lab! Anyway, I recommend saving
your Master Ball for it. If you don't, you have to catch it the old-fashioned
way.

Everything Elite Four
The "Elite Four" consist of Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha and Lance, in that order.
They appear at the end of
Victory Road. Before you fight them there is a chance to change Pok‚mon, heal
Pok‚mon and buy items
for the last time.
Lorelei is the mistress of icy Pok‚mon. She has Dewong, Cloyster, Slowbro, Jynx
and Lapras. Use grass.
Next comes Bruno. He has Onix, Hitmonchan, Hitmolee, Onix and Machamp in that
order. Hit hard with
flying Pok‚mon.
Agatha has Ghost Pok‚mon. She has Gengar, Golbat, Haunter, Arbok and Gengar in
that order. No Pok‚mon has a big advantage but do NOT use normal or fighting.
Finally comes Lance. He has Gyarados, Dragonair, Dragonair, Aerodactyl and
Dragonite in that order.
This is where your Articuno comes in handy. Good luck!
Also, every Ghost-type Pok‚mon has poison power as well. Thanks to Rei for
pointing this out.
After you beat the Elite Four, you've won the game! Congratulations! But wait!
Lance forgot this for a moment, but somebody already beat the Elite Four! His
name is GARY! Gary Oak, master trainer! Ash, I'm very sorry, but you cannot be
the greatest trainer of all time.
Ash: I THINK NOT! I will become the greatest Pok‚mon master of all time if it
means I have to beat Gary!
I thought so. Well, all right. Here's how to beat Gary (or Ash for you blue-
version fans):
Gary starts out with a Pidgeot. Electric, Ice, or Rock-type Pok‚mon will knock
it out. Then comes Alakazam, Mr. Psychic Pok‚mon. Pound it with a psychic or
bug-type Pok‚mon. Next is Rhydon, a mixture of Rock and Ground Pok‚mon. A grass
or water-type Pok‚mon will destroy it. The next group changes with what Pok‚mon
he chose at the beginning of the game. For Exeggcutor, a grass Pok‚mon, try
fire. For Arcanine, put out its fire with water. For Gyrados, try a Pikachu. It
can beat both its types- Water and Flying! You fight two of those and then the
Pok‚mon he chose way at the beginning. If he chose Venusaur, you fight Gyrados
and Arcanine. If he chose Blastoise, you fight Arcanine and Exeggutor. If he
chose Charizard, you fight Gyrados and Exeggcutor. For Blastoise, use grass.
For Charizard, use Water. For Venusaur, use fire. Got that? Good. On you and
your Pok‚mon go to the Pok‚mon Hall of Fame!

There are eleven Pok‚mon that don't appear in the red version. The same goes
for the blue version!
Red has Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume. The opposite, in the blue version, is
Bellsprout/Weepinbell/Victreebell. Red has Mankey and Primeape. Blue has Meowth
and Persian. Red has Scyther, blue has Pinsir. Red has Electabuzz, blue has
Magmar. Red has Growlithe and Arcanine, Blue has Vulpix and Ninetales. Red has
Ekans and Arbok, Blue has Sandshrew and Sandslash.

Walkthrough: Please note that whenever the Gym Leaders give you TMs they also
give you a badge. Check later for what the badges do.

Pallet Town: You start out here. Go to the Prof.'s lab and leave the town.
However, Oak stops you! You go to his lab and get your first Pok‚mon! Your
choices are Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle. If you pick one, Gary picks the
superior one. Then he challenges you to your first duel! If you choose
Charmander or Squirtle you probably win, but if you pick Bulbasaur you probably
lose. Oh well, get healed from your mom and leave town!

Virdian City: You can't leave until you get your Pok‚dex. All right, we'll
worry about that later. In the mean time, buy some junk! Oh? The shop guy has a
package for the professor! Take it to him and get your Pok‚dex! Now you can buy
junk and capture Pok‚mon! IMHO you should go to Route 1 and get Pidgey and
Rattata before going ahead.

Virdian Forest: Go through. This is where you fight your first trainer battles,
so beware. You can get many Pok‚mon for the first time here!

Pewter City: The first gym battle is held here! Buy some cool junk and head to
the gym. Fight the Jr. Trainer there before you fight Brock. He has Diglett and
Sandshrew with him. After that go fight Brock. You get to fight his Onix (level
14) and Geodude (level 12). If you have a Bulbasaur or Squirtle, they're dead
meat! You get TM 36 and the Boulder Badge as rewards. Now go see the new
Pok‚mon fossils in the Museum. Then go!

Mt. Moon: You get to fight Team Rocket members here! When you get to the end
the Super Nerd fights you for Pok‚mon fossils. If you win he gives you some
cash and a fossil. The Helix fossil later gives you Omanyte and the Dome Fossil
later gives you Kabuto. Pick wisely. Now head to Cerulean City!

Cerulean City: The second gym is here. Buy some junk (and a bicycle if you can
afford it) and go fight Misty the second gym leader! If you have Bulbasaur (or
Ivysaur if you leveled it up properly) use it. Otherwise use a Pikachu. After
you get rid of her Staryu (level 18) and Starmie (level 21) you get TM 11 and
the Cascade Badge. Leave and go north!

Nugget Bridge: Go up for a while and you run into (you didn't think he's gone
forever, did you?) Gary Oak! Oh boy! Fight his Pidgeotto, Abra, Rattata and
whatever he chose at the beginning of the game to beat him. Beat him and move
on. You fight six trainers in a row! If you beat them all you get the Nugget as
a prize. It's useless in every way so sell it for 5000 GP!

Sea Cottage: BILL lives here! Bill's the greatest Pok‚maniac of all time!
However, a freak accident combined him with a Pok‚mon! This wouldn't be so bad,
but he doesn't like it. If you help him, he gives you a ticket to the S.S.
Anne! Before you head to the S.S. Anne leave and return to the cottage to see
information on Eevee and what it evolves into! Now head to the S.S. Anne.

Cerulean City: Go through the upper right house. A Team Rocket fights you. Beat
him and you get TM 28. Now go south to Route Five.

Routes Five, Six and the Underground Path: Go as far south as possible. You
cannot go into Saffron City, so take the Underground Path to Route Six. Fight
through and get to Vermilion City, which also has the S.S. Anne!

Vermilion City: Go to the Pok‚mon fan club. Talk to the chairman and he tells
you all about his Rapidash. For listening to him he gives you a Bike Voucher!
Take it to Cerulean City for a FREE bike! Now go to a house with one person on
it. He will trade a Spearow for a Farfetch'd. Go to S. S. Anne. Fight all the
trainers there and take some items. Once you're done hauling everything, go to
the captain's cabin. Guess who comes out of it? Nobody else but Gary Oak! If
you raised your Pok‚mon he should lose. Go in the captain's cabin. Talk to him
and you rub his back (he has seasickness). He gives you HM 01 as a reward! Use
it on a Bulbasaur (or an Oddish or Bellsprout if you didn't start with
Bulbasaur). Leave the Anne and go to the gym. The trainers there have electric
Pok‚mon. Use a Diglett against thim. Enter a secret password to get to the Lt.
Surge! He has a Voltorb (level 21), Pikachu (level 18) and Raichu (level 24).
Beat him for the TM 24. Go to Diglett's Cave now.

Diglett's Cave: Just go through to Route 2. There get the HM 05 from Prof.
Oak's aide! Use it on any Pok‚mon who can use it. Now go back to Cerulean City,
cut down the bush and go to route 9!

Routes 9 and 10: Just fight through. Heal before entering the Rock Tunnel.

Rock Tunnel: This is a good place to use your Repel. However, it will not repel
trainers, which there are a lot of. If you have Squirtle or Bulbasaur, use them
NOW!

Lavender Town: Ignore everything here and go west.

Routes 7, 8 and the Underground Path: Go through to Celadon City.

Celadon City: Check out the sites of the big city! Buy everything you need at
Celadon Department Store! Get an Eevee from the mansion! Get a coin case at the
diner! Exchange coins for prizes at the Exchange Corner! Bet coins for coins at
the Team Rocket Game Corner. WHAT AM I SAYING? Oh yeah, be sure to fight the
Rocket member in the back. Check the picture and a door opens- revealing a huge
Team Rocket operation! Fight through until you get to Giovanni, head Team
Rocket idiot! Beat his Pok‚mon (use Bulbasaur) and you get the Silph Scope.

Lavender Town's Pok‚mon Tower: Go through. Mr. Gary Oak is waiting for you on
the second floor. His Pok‚mon are WIMPS! RIP through their PATHETIC attacks and
DEFEAT them. Get to the sixth floor and you fight a Marowak! It is the restless
soul of Cubone's mother (ask around town for what that means). Go up and you
fight three Team Rocket members. You find Mr. Fuji. He gives you the Pok‚flute!
It will wake all sleeping Pok‚mon (including that evil Snorlax that takes all
the ways to Fuschia City). Sell your Awakenings and go to Saffron City!

Saffron City- Give Fresh Water to a guard from the Celadon Department Store. He
will let you in. First, go to Mr. Psychic's house (in the southeast corner). He
will give you a TM 29. Next go to the Fighting Dogo. Fight the trainers for one
of two Pok‚mon- Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan. Next go into Silph Co. First go to the
fifth floor and get the lift key. Next head to the third floor. Use the Card
Key A.S.A.P. and go to the seventh floor. Mr. "Smell You Later," A.K.A. Gary
Oak, is there! He has deathlike Pok‚mon, all between levels 35 and 40. If you
just barely beat him in the tower, then go level up some more. If you beat him
don't worry about what comes next. Just keep going. You run into- you knew Team
Rocket was here, didn't you?- Giovanni! He has some powerful Pok‚mon, but don't
worry. Just beat him and get the MASTER BALL from the head of Silph Co.! It can
capture any Pok‚mon, no matter WHAT HP level they are, no matter WHAT happened
to them! The only thing that stops it from working is if the enemy Pok‚mon
faints (or if trainers block it). Now you can go to "Little Copycat's" house.
Give her a Pok‚doll and she gives you a TM- TM 31, to be exact. Next go to the
gym. Warps connect it. Just go into the warp above or below you and you'll get
to Sabrina, the Gym Leader. She has a level 38 Kadabra, level 37 Mr. Mime,
level 38 Venomoth and level 43 Alakazam. Beat them and you get TM 46! Now you
can FINALLY leave Saffron City!

Routes 12, 13, 14 and 15: Just go through to Fuschia City. Blow the Pok‚flute
to wake up the Snorlax. You can capture him when he wakes up.

Fuschia City: Useless except for the Gym and the SAFARI ZONE! Oh yeah! First,
go to the gym and beat the idiots there. Koga, the leader, has two level 37
Koffings, 1 level 39 Muk, and one level 43 Weezing. Beat him for the TM 06! Now
go to the Safari Zone. Go to Area 1 first. Then go to Area 2. Go to the way to
Area 3, but do NOT take it! Instead, go around. At Area 3, pick up the Gold
Teeth and go to the Secret House. You get the HM 03 there! Take the Gold Teeth
to the Safari Zone Warden. As a reward, he gives you HM 04!

Routes 16, 17 and 18: Just go uphill. At Route 16 blow the Pok‚flute to wake up
the Snorlax. This is your last chance to capture it! Next cut down the bush. Go
through to the house. The girl there- an ex-Pok‚mon trainer- gives you the HM
02!

Power Plant: Go back to Cerulean City. Go to Route 9 and surf on the water. Go
to the Power Plant. There are many item balls that are really Voltorbs so
beware! Once you get far enough you run into the legendary Pok‚mon Zapdos! Keep
in mind the name Zapdos. This is your ONLY chance to capture it! Now leave and
return to Fuschia City. Surf down.

Routes 19 and 20: These only have 1 Pok‚mon: Tentacools. Don't worry.

Seafoam Island: This is only important for Articuno. Remember the name
Articuno. Then leave and go all the way back to Pallet Town unless you want to
do the maze. It is a HUGE maze, so just take the opposite way through.

Pallet Town: Ah, it's so nice to be home! However, just go on Route 21
immediately.

Route 21: Just go south, it's a much easier way to get to Cinnabar Island!

Cinnabar Island: This is the first place you can buy Ultra Balls. Buy a whole
lot of them. Now go to the mansion. Once you get to the third floor, push the
Pok‚mon statue. Go through the door and jump! His the statue down in the
basement and go up from where you landed. Go through until you get the Secret
Key! Grab it and get out. Use it to open the Gym! The gym is very tough if you
chose Bulbasaur at the beginning of the game. If you chose Squirtle, it's
simple! Guessed what type of Pok‚mon are there? You got it- FIRE! The gym
leader- Blaine- has a level 42 Growlithe, level 40 Ponyta, level 42 Rapidash
and level 47 Arcanine. Beat the gym leader to get TM 38! Get back to Viridian
City. Its gym reopened recently!

Viridian City: Go to the gym. Guess who the leader is? Anyway, all the trainers
use ground Pok‚mon. Get to the end. The trainer mocks you. Now, you shall face,
for the final time, the greatest trainer in the world- ??? last Gym Leader!
He/she has a level 45 Rhyhorn, level 42 Dugtrio, level 43 Nidoqueen, level 45
Nidoking and level 50 Rhydon! Beat them for TM 27!

FINALLY, IT'S TIME FOR THE POK‚MON LEAGUE!

Route 22: Go through. About halfway there, Gary stops you! Beat him and go to
Route 23! You are almost there! If you have all the badges, the Pok‚mon League
lets you through.

Victory Road: You're almost done! Go through, moving the boulders with your
strength. Put them on the switches to move on. Do that often and you leave!
Also, be sure you catch Moltres. Don't forget that name.

Indigo Plateau: Rest your Pok‚mon. Buy the items you need. Trade Pok‚mon with
your friends. Get your best team from the PC. Bring out your most important
items. See how the Professor rates you. This is your final chance to do so
before you fight the ELITE FOUR! Good luck!

Unknown Dungeon: After you bonk the Elite Four and Gary on the head, head to
the Unknown Dungeon. Capture Mewtwo there!

Do you get the joke with Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres? You don't? Look at the
last 3 or 4 letters in their names.

All you need to know about the Game Corner: The Game Corner is ran by Team
Rocket! However, that does nyat mean it tis bad. Thou will like it! First, get
a coin case at the diner. Second, pick up all the coins on the floor. Third,
get as many coins as possible from the service woman. Fourth, PLAY THE SLOTS!
If you win big, go to the exchange corner. Here is a walkthrough of it:
