Hi, and welcome to my faq of Der Langrisser, you might not now this,
but I am the onlyone, that is writeing a faq for Der Langrisser. The reson
why I am wrteing a faq for such a old games is because it is NOW in part
Engilsh thanks to Warui Toransu Tranlation Project own by Alamone and Esca's.
I, would like to give my thanks to Alamone for leting me use his codes
and stuff on his web site for my faq. Thanks again. ^<^
If, anyone have any questions, or would like to help me out please
e-mail me at zero_5@juno.com
This FAQ is base on the Alamone and Esca's Tranlation of Der Langrisser.
Alamone and Esca's web page is at http://zophar.net/personal/alamone/
Langrisser, the legendary holy sword which only the "Hikari no
Matsue" (descendents of light) may wield. Langrisser is a video game series
created by NCS/Masaya, which originated on the Sega Megadrive and since then
made its appearance on many different consoles. The Langrisser series may be
categorized as Strategy RPG's or "SLGs" (SimuLation Game).
The difference between Langrisser and some other strategy games,
say Shining Force, is the idea of commander/troop mechanics, and artwork by
famous anime artist Satoshi Urushihara (works include transformers, plastic
little, legend of lemnear). In addition, some of the Langrissers have multiple
plot branches instead of a linear story.
The first Langrisser game was translated as "Warsong" by the now
defunct Treco. (The translation was rather poor.) Because of lack of interest
in this game, future releases of Langrisser have been Japanese only. Alamone
and Esca are working on fixing that (See Alamone and Esca's Tranlation Project
projects involving Langrisser II and Der Langrisser).
Der Langrisser is not your average RPG game it have about 4 endings
pluse 78 levels, that includes 4 Story Routes and 3 Secret Levels!
In Der Langrisser you DON'T go in town and shop to talk to people to
get info. on where you should go next, instead you play the games
through Scenarios. This means if you pass a Scenario and you happen to miss
something, then you can't go back to get it (well you can still go back with
a code).
In ever Scenario you get a Winning Codition and Losing Codition. You
also get to buy an army to help you out on that particular scenario, but once
the scenario is over, you have to buy a new army for the next Scenario. Oh...
yeah I forgot in every Scenario you also get to buy equipment or sell them.
The equipment you get to buy depends on what scenario your on (or with a code
you can buy just about everthing in any Scenario).
Unlike most RPG you don't get to use Items to heal you party instead
you use Magic to heal you part. As you can tell magic plays a BIG role in
losing and winning in this game.
Like some RPG in Der Langrisser there is Summon Magic. When you Summon
someone you use him\her as a 2nd army.
In Der Langrisser you get to MAKE your own customs main character
through a quiz (don't worry it isn't very hard). I will explain more latter.
In Der Langrisser, the battle system is like notthing you had played
(or I had played). In Der Langrisser you first start by placeing you character
in a General Post (where the flages are).
Once done, you should, (but don't have to) buy an army, the more the
better. I think you can buy up to six armys. But you can't buy a army of two
class, it goes like this if you buy a army of Soldier you can't buy another
army of Bandit, for that same character.
O.K now you should, (but don't really have to) go in Inventory Equip
and buy new equipment and equip them. Oh yeah, you can also sell your equipment
here.
Once done with all of the above go to Attack. Now here is where the
real battle starts. Once all talking stops and you get to control your party
you can fight! To move a character move the box over that particular character
and press A. Now choose your command. If you happen to move next to a enemy you
will see a sword. Put the sword over an enemy and press A to attack.
Well, like most game there are bugs that can sometimes be good
or bad. Well here is the list:
in order of seriousness.
When the Holy Rod is obtained, it automatically displaces ANY weapon item
currently equipped, even Langrisser, and the item will be lost forever!
Sometimes certain troop units are not given at a class change. For example,
Elementals seem to be unobtainable.
When successfully charming a unit, and that unit kills another unit, you might
receive the charmed unit's items.
(For example, Scenario 1, you charm Leon, and
he attacks Laird's lancer troop and kills it, and then you obtain Leon's Plate
armor and Great sword. It is not clear if this might be used to get quest items.
I think it wouldn't work, because the game thinks you killed Leon and gave you the
items; however if you kill characters with important items usually they don't give
them to you. Besides that Charm works seldom on powerful enemies.)
The way the game calculates battle-result counters is incorrect. The SFC version
uses formula (6 - troops died), instead of correct formula (troops bought - troops
died). Langisser Dramatic does it correctly. So in fact, this makes the SFC version
easier, since you will accumulate more A+ bonuses easier.
>From Freaky_Z: When saying "No" to "Is this okay?" during character creation, all
stats are reset except starting items. Doing this, you can obtain many items from
the start of the game such as Devil axes, saleable for lots of P. Though after the
6th time, the game freezes.
If you end the turn and have your units on Attack or Battle, and the units
happen to be archer or ballista types, and they're near the edge of the map,
it is possible that they might attack an enemy on the other edge of the map.
(This happened to me on the bridge level (scenario 8)).
Holding the cancel/fast button on cinema scenes will disorient the screen centering.
Wrong portrait to a character. In Scenario 21 Imperial with Sonia, Chaos' portrait
will look like a Vampire Lord, except when Chaos is talking.
Battle graphics sometimes glitch. A pirate or swordsman type class which does the
sword-blaze attack might do it twice (the 2nd time having no effect), and
magic-attacks might happen twice as well.
Very very slight graphic abberations in certain situations. For example, some pixels
of a portrait might be invisible, or the unit you select during general setup might
change for a split second. (Example: You select Soldier but some Civilians
show up instead)
Sometimes the HP reading does not show up, even if you have it enabled.
Sometimes the terrain bonus shown is way off, especially during General Setup and
during cut-scenes. (It might say 91% 00% or the like.)
Sometimes the HP/battle status appears on a character during a cut-scene
(it's supposed to be invisible at all times during a cut-scene)
Sometimes a unit will gain tremendous terrain bonuses. (For example, my Valkyrie
unit had 41% 41%.) This error is sure to happen if a water based unit is on land
and has a negative bonus (or any other unit has a negative bonus), it will appear
as a high positive number in a battle scene, usually around 40%. AK says it also
happens when attacking a ghost or such that can stand in a wall or any other
inpenetrable tile. I think that while the reading on the screen is inaccurate
the actual math involved remains the same, so this bug is not as major as it looks.
Sometimes a unit will show up where it's not supposed to be. For example, in Scenario
X3, while the enemy units twirl around an extra unit will twirl around that's not
supposed to be there.
The area when Sherry and Lester first meet have garbled graphics to the right side.
Text is sometimes incorrect (example: item description for Alhazard says AT+10 but
gives AT+12 in reality). That is the only incorrect description I found, so far.
>From AK: Scenario 14(25), Est and Ost don't have troops, yet you get gold from them
in the battle-result screen.
>From AK: Character graphic might not correspond to the correct character during
cinemas.
>From AK: Lester casting AttackUp1 might make Lester translucent.
>From AK: Serpent Knights attacking might only have the serpent move, leaving the
character riding the serpent floating in mid-air.
When selecting music or sound test, first screen of text might be blank, you must
press left or right to fix.
Within Inventory Equip, only AT and DF values are updated as items are equipped.
Items that give A+ or D+, for example, will not update your character's statistic
until after you leave the inventory screen.
>From Esca: After class change with runestone, D+ is reset correctly, but A+ is added
to your previous A+ statistic, making your A+ extra-powerful for that scenario only...
it is reset to normal once the scenario is over.
D+ and A+ bonuses from equipped items are ignored on the General Select screen.
(But are accounted for during gameplay.)
1. Never use a small army to fight a big enemy army. This is what I mean
if one of your army is only at 5 people, don't use that army to fight
a army of 10 people.
2. Try to keep your army at Command Range, so your army get Troop Attack bonus
and Troop Defense bonus, this is also this is a big part of the game, this
could change the outcome of winning and losing.
3. If an army is low on people and need to be heal. Move that particular
army next to the Commander and on the next turn that army will be heal
3 people.
4. Try to always buy the best equipment for your part.
5. If you can't beat a scenario use the code to play a scenario you already
beat to level up and to get some money to buy better equipment for your
party.
6. Try not to separate up your party too much...unless you need to.
7. Try to always keep your army at the max of 10 people. This is also a
big role in the game if you keep your army heal this could change the
outcome out winng and losing.
8. When useing Magic try to get as much people as possible. Isn't it better
to hit two army than to hit one army and still use the same amount of mp?
Well everone should of know that... if not well... you do now.
9. If you have to fight a commander with a BIG army, you don't really have to
fight all the big army first. You could just kill the commander and the
big army will go down with him, BUT! this is easier said than done.
The Main Character Creation Quiz, is a quiz (ohh I didn't know that)
that determines how your main character is like. Like what class is he going
to be, how strong he is, how much money he has, how strong his magic is, and
more things like that.
Legend
LV = Level
AT = Commander Attack
DF = Commander Defense
MP = Commander Magic Points
A = Troop Attack bonus
D = Troop Defense bonus
CR = Command Range
EX = Experience points
Troop = Elwin's # of troops
Unit = Elwin's troop unit selection
MDF = Magic defense
MDMG = Magic damage (offensive magic)
MRNG = Magic range
Class = Elwin's class
Item = Item added to inventory
Magic = Elwin's inherent magic spells
Summon = Elwin's inherent summons
P = Points (money)
Note that a "=" negates any previous value for a statistic. This chart is valid
for Langrisser LE, effects are slightly different in the SFC version (and
possibly PC-FX and Dramatic versions). For Langrisser I (PSX and SAT versions),
the quiz starts on question 5.

times (at least 4 screens, 16+ items) without wrapping your inventory |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Codes under "Load" (not an ingame load) with cursor on any [occupied] save slot |

Here is one more code for the snes system of Der Langrisser. |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Starting Items Trick: From Freaky_Z: When saying "No" to "Is this okay?" during |
character creation, all stats are reset except starting |
Items. Doing this, you can obtain many items from the |
start of the game such as Devil axes, saleable for lots |
of P. Though after the 6th time, the game freezes. |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
__________________________________________________________________________________
Here is some codes for all game system of Der Langrisser. |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Inventory Trick: When a character class changes, he or she still retains any |
items equipped. You can use this to your advantage. For example, |
say your Elwin started as a Fighter. Fighters can equip |
Speedboots, but Knights can't. If Elwin has speedboots equipped |
and class changes to SlvrKnt, he will still have the speedboots |
equipped, even though SlvrKnt cannot equip speedboots. (Hint: You|
can use this trick in conjunction with Runestones and Scout |
classes to equip ranged weapons.) |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Experience Trick: Langrisser awards experience three ways: Defeating an enemy |
unit, healing your buddies, or staying alive after scenario |
clear. This trick concentrates on the healing part. Position |
your troops near an enemy magician, and make sure your troops |
are NOT adjacent to your commander so they will NOT receive +3HP|
a turn. Place anyone you want to gain experience nearby who |
knows Heal1 or Heal2. Let the magician cast Fireball or Meteor |
or whatever, and simply keep healing. The game will not check |
that you are cheating in this way and you can obtain easy |
experience points. A good idea would be to put your orders to |
"Idle" so your troops won't start attacking the magician or |
something stupid like that. |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Soft reboot: (not really a cheat): For the snes hold L+R and SELECT+START buttons.|
This will instantly take you to the Load menu. You can there press |
the cancel button to return to title screen. (Other systems have |
similar functionality, try pressing many buttons simultaneously) |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Cloneing items: |
>From esca: This trick allows you to duplicate any item. (Even limited items such |
as Langrisser or Runestones). The limitation is that the cloned item |
will have to stay equipped. To start, equip said character with desired|
item to clone. Beat a scenario. Save the game, and go back to the load |
screen. Scenario Select back to a scenario where said character appears|
as a NPC. You'll still have the item the character equipped in your |
inventory. This is the cloned item. Equip that item to whoever you |
want. This action will swap the cloned item with the real item. Now, |
once you start the scenario, the NPC will be holding the cloned item, |
and the real item will be equipped to whichever character you gave it |
to. Once the NPC joins your party, the NPC will retain the cloned item.|
Make sure you don't unequip the cloned item, or it will disappear. |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
LV10 Runestone: Yes, it's possible to use the runestone once you're at LV10. Just |
equip your LV10 character with a runestone and start a scenario. |
Once you select the character, he/she will automatically use it |
up. And as a bonus, all excess experience gained at LV10 will be |
carried over. |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
This walkthrough is base on the Warui Toransu Tranlation Project of Der
Langrisser, own by Alamone and Esca. There are 4 Story Route in Der Langrisser.
So, if you see something like this Light Path Scenario 21 (24). The (24) is the
real sceneraio in the Scenario Select. The 21 is... or should be how much
Sceneraio you played.
Notes:
"Party members" does NOT include NPCs.
When an enemy "leaves" the map, they are considered undefeated (you won't
receive P from them).
When a party member leaves the party, all equipped items are put back into
the inventory. If the party member rejoins later, experience levels are
retained (I think).
If an enemy is left undefeated in a scenario, he/she may come back stronger
in a later scenario.
Scenario select may alter plot results. For example, if you warp to a
scenario where Sonia is in your party, and in your game you've chosen a
path where you killed Sonia, she won't appear on the ingame scenario map,
and coorespondingly endings/etc will be modified. (She will still show up
on your General Select screen and you can still equip items for the "dead"
character in your party)
Side-events listed under Scenario # are incomplete. Only side-events that
affect you are listed. Other actions may trigger characters to say
different things but don't affect you (for example, the death of Evanze
leads to Ridel's death speech). These are NOT listed.
The branch prerequisites may be incomplete or incorrect, also the "AND/OR"
configuration may be incorrect.
Multiple ending prerequesites need to be finished later...
Subtitles for each scenario need to be finished later...
Baldo abducts Riana here. Ridel and Evanze show up as NPCs.
Here on your first turn of the battle just move Elwin to the west and
Hein north.
Next on your 2nd turn try to kill Igen and his army.
On your third turn, if you haven't kill Igen and his army then do it
now. If you already did kill him move Elwin and Hein north.
On your 4th turn if you still haven't kill Igen then you better do it
now! If you had already kill him and you just went north, go west to kill
Baldo. On the rest of your turns just try to kill Baldo before he reaches
the bottom of the map.
After the scenario clear. If Ridel (NPC) is alive you will Receive
an extra 100P, not too bad. Also at Scenario Clear Scott also joins your
party. I would recommend you use the Scenario Select and replay this
scenario to gain som levels.
__________________________________________________
|Party Members| Winning Codition | Losing Codition |
--------------|------------------------------------|
|Elwin |-Death of all |-Death of Elwin |
| enemys | |
--------------|------------------------------------|
|Hein |-Riana reaches top|-Death of Riana |

---------------------------------------------------|
|Scott | | |
---------------------------------------------------|
On every turn it ask you Direct Riana north, near Elwin, near
Hein, or near Scott. Picky any one of them BUT Direct Riana north.
On turn number one just go south and attack the two Igen and
their armys. If Leon undefeated by this Turn a Imperial messenger
arrives, Leon and messenger leave. In this scenario you should
take your time, BUT don't have any party members crosses north bridge
or the 2nd wave of people arrives.
After you kill both Igen and their armys, the 2nd wave of people
come. Here is you time to heal before you go north to kick their a$$.
After you heal your party or the army come to you, start
attacking it shouldn't be that hard... or is it? Oh... don't foget to
NOT to move any party members nears top quarter of map or the 3rd wave
of people will come. You also shouldn't kill Laird (not sure when he
comes in) if you want to take the Imperial Path.
Once you kill everone or move a party member near the top of the
map the 3rd wave of enemys come. Don't worry Rouga will come in also
to save the day. Now you can kill everone (lots of fun :-) or just
move Riana to the very top of the map.
If Lauren (NPC) is still alive at scenario clear you will
receive a Great Sword.
